Has anyone had any success with ultrasonic or sound wave products that do not annoy customers yet get rid of birds?

There are a few on the market but they seem VERY expensive..

Anyone have any success with any particular product in the past?

The gas station that sells washes for us used a device that had the sound of birds in distress to convince others not to come near it worked for a while until the birds realized (I don't know how) it was fake and that system was put to rest now I don't know what he is going to do this year because bird season is back.

Birds are pretty smart and they figure out the fakes pretty quick. That is why the owl only works for a little while.

This has come up in many threads, including one by me. The best advice I've heard is to block all entrances/cracks, and get rid of all ledges in the bays. While this can be difficult, if not impossible, it's the only way that I feel will work.

I've thought about cats, by putting them in the attic, however, I really don't want to deal with their smell. If I could only train them to stay outside at the wash, and enter the attic when on the prowl!

We have a minor problem with birds. They don't nest in the building, but they hang around all day crapping everywhere. They perch on the mansard above the auto entrance and then swoop down to fly across the entrance drive and crap on their way across. It looks like stripes on a 20-lane wide highway.

We used to have nesting problems on our bay wallpacks. Purchased carpet "tackless" strips and glued two to top of every fixture. No more nests! Now the buggers are heading under the vac domes so we're ringing them with hardware cloth. At least they're not pulling quarters from the changer!

I tried something new this year and it seems to be working. I waited until they were ready to nest and hung CDs about 6" down from the ceiling around the areas where they like to nest. About 5 per bay.

As they swing in the breeze, they reflect the light. So far, I don't see near as many birds, and don't hear any babies. I'll probably take them down at the end of the summer and put them up next year just before nesting season.

FWIW the disco and rap CDs seem to be the most effective.

Every year I had a problem with birds building a nest on one of my booms (yes, that's how busy we are :) ). Last time I wrapped cable ties around the boom where they nest and left the end standing up. It works wonders: cheap and no nests anymore. But this is only one small area to protect.

I like this idea and will see about deploying it at my washes. Their small and putting them on top of the wall will be out of sight for customers.

Birds aren't smart enough to recognize the shape of a cat. They're spooked by movement. That's probably why the hanging CDs work.

I like my 22 caliber air pump rifle. I gave 2 pigeons lead poisoning today. Another thing I have found to work is to place the large rat traps that use very sticky glue. I place them where the birds land and nest. As soon as they step on one or try to peck at it they are stuck to it and the more they fight the more they get caught up in it. Eventually they drop to the ground for easy pickup.
