I tried a new method of keeping birds away that so far seems to be working. I found some large blow up beach balls that have round looking eyes on them. It seems the birds think it is a eye ball of a large predator. It is a single colored ball with some black circles on it similar to a Target store Logos. I got the blow up ones from Farmtek. I also made my own with a $2.50 ball I bought at Target. I colored the eyes in with a black marker and hung it up. So far it is working well but I understand that it is a good idea to rotate colors every few weeks so the birds do not get used to them.

what are the birds doing to your wash that you need to keep them away.

I have bird trying to build nest in my auto bay roll up door. When I have to close the doors I kill a nest of eggs last time.

Each year we have birds nest in all SS Bays on back side of wand pivot. They are not bothered that their nest goes round and round when in use. Kind of amazing--but safe for them--no predators unles a snake decides to slither up the wand hose.

The birds nest and also just hang out. They crap all over the bays and even on customers cars at times. The large beach ball with fake eyes seems to really work at keeping them away from the wash.

That's a good idea. Let us know in a couple of months if its still working.

I hung shiny CD's on strings from the ceiling and it worked well to start with. But they got used to them after a while, and ignore them now. Your idea might work if you can move the balls around occasionally.

The birds are smart and will figure out soon that things aren't a threat. You might change things around from time to time. That thin Mylar strips that orchards use also works

How about putting carpet tack strips up where the birds perch? I read that idea on this forum, so I cannot take credit for it. Sounds like a good idea, but I haven't put it in practice yet.

Hanging things seems like a temporary solution. Nails that they can't land on seems to be a little more permanent.

A good way to deter birds building nests on top of the booms is to put cable ties around them with the end sticking up. Cheap and works wonders.
