I broke off the key trying to open one of vacs. I managed to get it open using forcepts on the part that was still in there. Since I didn't have a spare I used the same method to stick it back until I could get a spare. Of course when I went to remove it my luck had run out and I can't get it open. It's the Abus disc type lock. I know it would be bad form to print publicly how to remove one of these without a key. Would someone be willing to pm me some info? I hate to make it worse by randomly drilling. Thanks.

If the piece is still in there some disc locks have a little hole on the backside opposite the key for drainage etc. Can you get to it or is the lock in a housing? I have ground down a small nail so the diameter was small enough to go thru the hole and push the broken piece out the front from the rear. You might be able to take the pieces to a locksmith to get a new key made from the pieces.

Randy told me about the little hole in the back yesterday. Wish I had known when I had the sob off! It broke on a Saturday when I was leaving town for a week on Sunday so I had to put it back. It locked easily when I put it back but won't turn for anything now. I'm going to introduce it to my friend Dewalt this afternoon!

So far I've broken every bit I've used and I can't saw it.
The little guard spins with big bits and the little bits break. Do I need a special kind of bit?
Thx

I've done it a couple of times. Smack the $hit out of it with a punch and hammer until the disk in front of the keyway is deformed and won't spin. Then drill it with whatever size drill you need.
