I have an Ooma telephone system that works over the internet. When a customer calls....I immediately get a text sent to my cell phone. Often, I can catch the customer even before they leave the wash.

Handy.....

I have another problem that has come up. A car wash 10 miles away came and took pictures of my signs with the number to call for service. Problem is they did not change my phone number to theirs so their irate customers end up calling me. My first line is what location are you at? When they tell me the town that is 10 miles away I tell them I do not have a wash there etc. etc. and they still complain to me. and do I have their number. I have asked the wash to take down the signs with my number several times with no luck. I am about ready to rip them out of the wall and say they obviously stole them from me.

WTH? That's just weird that they would do that.

Soapy & others,

Based on me being somewhat sheepishly enamored by the small claim Court TV shows ... I would say you could collect some money for damages & emotional distress by taking your fellow operator to small claims court!

We have a similar problem but it is more related to the competitor's customer not finding it posted or no answer when calling their posted number when they call. Sometimes their customer just go to the list of car washes on their phone & don't look at the address. Maybe their "out of their mind mad" customer just assumes that we own more than one car wash in town ... we do not. Our customers ring our service bell &/or call one of 2 clearly posted phone #'s. Maybe we are lucky to have smarter & more truly intelligent customers than theirs ... not sure.

Yup ... I will have to keep that what can be a potentially evil vice in check! I was more suggesting ... rather than taking the law into one's own hands. We probably want to avoid going so far as .... "vigilantism" though!

I was thinking of a Cease and Desist order from the law firm of Bones, Breakem and Mame.

Once you verify they are from the other wash, just be an A$$. Say “What - you expect exact change - good luck with that. Try another wash”. Or “guess today wasn’t your lucky day - go - - - - yourself!” See how the owner likes his customers getting that response.

It could have been a careless mistake - someone may have taken a picture of the sign and asked a sign company to make one like it, and accidentally copied the phone number too. I was at a guy's wash while he was putting up decals he had to cover up an old sign with a different phone number, and he realized after the second one that it wasn't his number on the decal.

If I could reach the signs I would go there with a broad marker and cross it out or a sticker and cover it. Make sure the cameras can't get your face or plate!
