What important data metrics do you rely on most when evaluating your car wash for success?

example: daily total washes? which days of the week the wash is most busy? revenue per day? per month? per year?

Personally, success for me is determined by being able to see a profit when everything is accounted for. That said, if expenses are being well managed then you know what your gross income needs to be to turn a profit. Knowing the average daily car count and average sales price will tell you if you are on track to meet or exceed your gross income needs.

Secondary data that I like to have is what percentage of sales are credit/debit cards and what percent of total sales is each wash package. Knowing the percent of credit/debit cards can be a good indicator of how high a price point a location can support. Knowing the percent of total sales that each wash package makes up will tell you how your pricing, wash setup, and signage are working.

On the expense side, monitoring the cost per car allows for much greater control over expenses.

Just my 2 cents.

I track daily water usage that I put in a spread sheet weekly. The amount of money earned per 1000 gallons of water used is so close every week its scary! My water meter is in the ER which makes this easy to track daily.

For instance, I have a 4 bay SS, if I use a thousand gallons of water in a single day, I know within a few bucks how much I made in the bays that day. I don't have CC or any other method to track car count, so this works well for me.

All other services (Vacs/Vending/Pop Machines) are measured and accounted for weekly.

What type wash are you? A tunnel wash would measure labor %, $/car, car counts, cash flow, volume trends over time. chemical costs, among others. For a self serve, chemical, labor, & utility% , volume over time, among others.
