CarWatch last minute support before update

Greetings all,

As many of you know CarWatch is an antique program and support from DRB is non- existent. We are on the road to an upgrade and have purchased the system which will arrive in approximately 8 weeks. For the last few weeks after firing up the PC, we have encountered a 201 range check error code that says error 201 at address 0873:044E in program CWT.exe. We run both CW and TW on the same PC, and TW is running fine. I have been manually sending cars through TW since CW is practically dead ( no tickets, cashier, timeclocks etc) i need help to get through 8 weeks until the new equipment arrives. Is there a way to do a system restore or bypass this error code? Any help , tips would greatly be appreciated. I am no expert at DOS so anything will be helpful. TIA, Tony

Tony, facing a 201 range check error in CWT.exe of your CarWatch program without support can be daunting, especially while waiting for an upgrade. Here are a few steps you can try: first, attempt a System Restore on your PC to a point before the error began occurring; this might resolve any recent software changes that triggered the issue. If that doesn't work, consider running CWT.exe in compatibility mode for an older Windows version, as it could help mitigate compatibility issues. Additionally, check for any corrupted files associated with CWT.exe and replace them if necessary. Since TicketWriter (TW) is operational, continue using it manually for car management until the new system arrives. If these steps don't resolve the issue, reaching out to a local IT expert familiar with DOS systems may provide further assistance.

Thank you for your response. My thoughts are in line with what you wrote. However, if this was an XP, Vista, etc. doing a system restore would be the first I would've done. I do not quite know how to do a system restore on a DOS, particularly one specifically geared towards a car wash PC. I also do not know how to run the CWT.exe on compatibility mode. TW (Tunnel Watch) is functioning well but I have no manually turn on the rollers, chemicals etc. I've reached out to plenty of local and online IT services but to no avail. I will continue to search for IT services. in the meantime, Would you be able to give me pointers on how to do a sys restore or run the cwt.exe on compatibility mode? TIA

Unfortunately, DOS doesn't have the equivalent of a system restore or compatibility mode. A 201 error can mean many different things in CWT, so it can be difficult to diagnose and recover from. One thing I remember is doing a purge and expand in Customer Tracking if you have that feature (Customer Tracking was option 4 on the main menu if I recall).

In either case, you can run one of your blue terminals directly from TunnelWatch and send cars directly from the entrance of the tunnel that way. Might be the easiest way to get through the next few weeks before the new system arrives. If the new system is from DRB, I would think they could help you get the blue terminal working in TunnelWatch until then.
