Check with Wayne Espeseth at www.asmfg.ca (not .com). I have sold him a few Cat heads and crankcases as I weed out my Cats. He buys washed out heads and other items for rebuild. He may have one ready to go with his SS inserts.

Is this who does them when you send the heads to Kleen-Rite?

No, Kleen-Rite does not send them there. The Vilco repair is totally different than KR's. Kleen-Rite's repair is better. The ss sleeves are permanent, where as Vilco inserts thin removable ss sleeves with o-rings. I had Vilco do one. It did not hold up.

Has anybody seen this in a Cat 5CP2120W pump head usually they are Silver sleeved not Gold and the material looks to be flaking away. Should I have it resleeved?

It looks like you’ve got a lot of erosion going on inside that head. What do the valve ports look like? What kind of soap are you using? Has the head ever been replaced under warranty? Some are still covered under warranty, I contact Cat. You could roll the dice and send it in to be resleeved.

That's damage from cavitation. The pump isn't getting enough water flow.

Come to find out it's a head we got from Cat under warranty because it has the R stamped on the front next the stamped W, I pulled off another head from the next bay and it's coated in the same material but not flaking like these.

I have a complete pump that is seized that you can have. It went underwater in a hurricane several years ago but I'm sure the head is still ok.

They're nickel and then chrome plated. It should still be repairable with pressed-in seats.

That pump head could probably be repaired. I would replace it. Let me guess you’ve throttled back on the water supply so the pump will draw chemical. This causes turbulence in the water, the turbulence causes air bubbles and it’s the air bubbles that erode the inside of the pump, like what you’ve got. You need to correct the cause of the problem or you’re going to continue to eat up pump heads, it doesn’t happen overnight, takes a while.

Sorry No throttling back on water supply, I contacted Cat Pumps this morning and waiting for a response. I'm prepping another head to be sleeved at Vilco Co. to be resleeved with S.S and I'll probably be sending the rest in very shortly.

I’m not a big fan of the way Vilco does there Cat pump head repair. I like the way the company Kleen-Rite has do the head repair where they press in the stainless sleeve. I still think you need to get to the root of the problem. How long has that head been installed?

Dynajet also presses in a sleeve, no inserts with o-rings, and they do all ports for one price.

I assure you that's cavitation damage.
