cat 5cp2120 vs 310

I recently installed two new 5cp2021 pumps on a seven bay stand. The two new 5cp pumps are so much louder than the other five pumps I wondering if there is a problem. Is it normal for cat pumps to be noisy during the break in period? Im also wondering if the 310 pumps are better than the 5cp2120 pumps. this is my first time purchasing cat 5cp2120 pumps. Compared to my old general pumps these are much louder.

There's no break-in period. 5CP2120 and 310 are essentially the same pump, almost the same ratings. I'm not surprised they're louder than General pumps but they will last a lot longer. I've never noticed that 5CP2120 are louder than 310, but I've had a couple people tell me the same thing.

Did you put oil in them? Generals come with oil, Cats do not.

We'd never use a Cat 5CP pump because of all the pump head problems they have had. We use the old rock solid Cat 310. We very seldom ever have any pump issues. We pressure feed the pumps with both hot and cold water at about 15-20psi.

You can order both the 5CP and the 310 with stainless inserts factory installed. Ideally you won't ever have a head wash out with those.

Ive had about 6/7 of each. I can't tell a lick of difference between the 2. In fact, w/out looking @ the label, I don't know the difference.

Having owned numerous of both models, the 310 is more durable, the 5CP is much easier to work on. I agree with Randy that with the 5CP, washout is much more of an issue.
