Cat pump oil

Can someone direct me to a previous discussion regarding alternatives to cat pump oil. I guess I'm not smart enough to figure how to use the search function here:confused:

Cat oil is an ISO68 hydraulic oil.

I use a mix of three parts ND30 and one part transmission fluid.

The search function is very finicky. I type "cat pump oil site:www.autocareforum.com" into Google.

Not sure if this is right, but my distributor always told me to just use ND30 in my cat 623 pumps and that is all I have use for the past six years.

I wouldn't use ND 30 on a pump still under warranty, but I've never seen a problem caused by it in any pump.

Why would you just not use CAT oil?? I buy the 2.5 gallon jugs from KR, and keep one at each location. I order it when they have a free ship special. It costs only $3.50 per change on the 5cp2120, $4.60 on the 310. I change every 7-10 months. Seems like a waste of time, just to try a save few cents on this item.

Along the same lines as the topic, does anybody know how many gallons of water you can run through one of these pumps before needing the oil changed? Some washes are much busier than others and it doesn't make sense to change oil on regular intervals. To me, it makes way more sense to change based on usage....

BTW..I use Cat Oil in the 2.5 gallon jugs....

Why change the oil if it’s not contaminated with water? We’ve got 1 pump out of 23 that has MILKY blue oil in it, I told the guys to run it like that until it comes apart, so far it’s been over 3 years. Pressure is still up around 1500 psi and it’s not making any noise.

You would go by hours of use, I believe 500 is the recommended time.

Thanks....Since I don't have hour meters, this equates to roughly 90K gallons per pump. Factoring in LP systems, Softener, and SFR., this will give me a baseline to go by...

Chevron GST ISO 100 is what you want or different brand with the same properties. 2 years ago it was about $80 for five gallons...now how does that compare to your cat oil$$!
