Anyone know of a simple way to have my changer call me when low? Maybe something with a ring doorbell?

Have it figured out and it’s simple. Will put a Ring doorbell inside of and add another OOS light on rear door of changer. Then I can look anytime to see the status. It will also tell me when someone is in the office. Maybe put one outside too so I can talk to customers. Voila.

Ring doorbell wireless communication won't get through the changer housing.

I put out of service lights on the back door of a number of bill changers for a large chain of car washes. They have cameras in the equipment room so they can see what's going on inside the equipment room. They also had it tried into the alarm system to alert them to a problem.

Thanks Randy. It seems our resident expert is not as smart as he thinks. Can you tell me how you tied it to the alarm?

It’s simple Mac. Put a relay on the Out of Service light, I like to use a 110 volt Omron single pole relay #LY1-VA-006003 on the Hamilton bill changers and then have the alarm company tie into the contacts on the relay.

I can’t see the hopper levels

I wonder if a couple of mirrors angled just right would let you see the hopper levels. Also maybe a small light just enough to get the camera into color mode.

I have an update on the Ring cameras I’m using. Found one with a feature they call Superman X ray vision. It allows the camera to see through the changer door, thus eliminating the need of adding another light.

These are the first generation wyze cameras. My understanding is the newest ones have much better night vision. But these are fine for me in black and white. If I see a light flashing when I log on I know I've got a problem.

I did have a dual American changer model (the model with a single cabinet) and could see hopper levels in it with this same camera.

BTW, the router is just five feet from the changer housing, so I guess wifi strength could be a problem for some further away as MEP mentioned..

I highly recommend the Wyze cameras for operators with wi-fi at their site. I guarantee you'll find something to do with them, even if you have an existing video system.

They have comparison videos from V2 to V3 on YouTube. Since I have both Wyze V2 & V3 ... I can vouch for the V3 for the enhanced "sharpness & even color distinction ability" low light ... not sure specifically with the "extreme close-up" inside of whatever changer cabinet ... probably it would be even better than distance viewing though it seems. The V3 also gains with a slightly wider angle ability. Horizontal & vertical FOV if you will.

There are no tweaking of aperture light in Wyze V3 settings & perfecting IR LEDs paths like on some high end cameras ... but that is the crazy part about the Wyze V3 ... it tends to not even need those kinds of tweaking. The resolution makes capturing &/or viewing from a farther distance not adequate though. That is why Greg Pack's recommendation & pic within a cabinet might make sense for some! As nutty as it sounds ... maybe error out situation ... can be made to trigger the Wyze's motion notification to be reliable enough ... which could mean a helpful instant SMS notification.
