Randy lost some of my notes. Do you have the parts to replace the guts of these 2 American Changers? Or know where I can get them. Have a contract and deposit for sale of the wash and don’t want to put a lot of money into it.

I agree with the comment about Hamilton Changers. They are more reliable and better designed than American and Standard Changers plus you can reach tech support. We have all three changers at our washes. We recently upgraded a Hamilton ER-60 to the DRS, what a nice changer! We probably will list the old Er-60 for sale soon, it worked when we removed it and it has a tall Hamilton stacker with the Hamilton bill acceptor.

We recently updated a Standard 500 changer to use the MEI Mars bill acceptor. Process was fairly easy and the Mars made the system more reliable.

However we now have an issue with the hopper motor axle. The motor turns but does not turn the hopper wheel. Spoke with Standard tech support who pointed out the roll pin that holds the axle to the hopper wheel, we installed a new roll pin but motor axle still does not turn the hopper wheel. By the way tech support said the pin is likely to break if you put too many quarters in the hopper. Never had such an issue with Hamilton

Any other ideas of things to look at?

Take a look at the gears on the coin fed mechanism

Standard changers have an axle from the motor and an axle from the hopper wheel. They meet and appear to be be connected by the roll pin. I can see the motor axle turning when a bill is inserted and if I manually turn the hopper axle with my fingers I can get coins to drop. If you have a Standard changer with something else to check please post a small pic as I am at a loss.

Check to see if the roll pin sheared again. If so, pull the hopper out, dump the quarters into a bucket or whatever and find what's binding it up. It's usually a bent coin. The pin should shear before stripping the gears, but if they are stripped, you would of course need to replace them.

I also upgraded my standard 600 to the mars system a few years back. I ran a bit over 100k in quarters through it since and no issues other than the occasional bent coin shearing the roll pin.

I upgraded my Hamiltons to the Mars validators also. They work much better than the Hamilton validators. I used to be lucky to get two years out of a Hamilton before sending it in for a $200 service, not to mention they don't work if they are below 50 degrees, so you have to heat them. I haven't done anything other than clean the mars units in several years, so they have paid for themselves.
