Changing a modem in wash select 2

I bought a used wash select 2 and it has a dial up modem. Is it feasible to change the modem to high speed and why would you ever want dial up?

You can change it out to use the internet but you will most likely have to change the motherboard and upgrade the software as well. The only reason I can think of to use dialup is it is cheaper than cable. The advantage is card approval with internet is almost instantaneous where as dial up takes about 30 seconds or so.
 
I would assume that the wash select has a version E motherboard in it. You can pull the motherboard, and Unitec can update the board to turn it into a G-1 revision. Then, you can buy the internet update card processing, that will come with a new double sided reader, and a high speed " modem" that would be programmed with your information.

Some operators don't want to pay the fee for internet, and believe it or not, in some areas, internet is still not available.
 
My self serve equipment will use high speed for the credit cards. I hate to have dialup when ill already have high speed for the other.
 
Do you have the card boxes for the bay already? If not, you could go with the WashPay system, and convert the Wash select to Washpay, and then keep track of all transactions, ( including cash), on your site server.

Crypto-pay does have a high speed credit card system for the Hamilton ACW’s but they don’t have a retro fit card system for the Wash Select II yet, I heard they were thinking about building one. Changing over a WSII from Dialup to high speed internet is going to be expensive. Does anyone know how expensive it would be to switch over a WSII from Dialup to High speed internet?
 
My WSII still uses dial up and the card approval is nowhere near 30 seconds. It's certainly less than 10 seconds, and maybe closer to 5 seconds. High speed would be about 1 second. If you don't have high speed at the site already it would be a lot of $$$ to spend for a few seconds, especially since the customer waiting for approval is also waiting for the car in the bay to finish.
 
I agree with the madscientist. One of my washes has high speed but it is not available in the area for the other one. Even with dial up, response time is usually 3 to 4 seconds tops!!
 
I have been using dial up on a WS II for 10 years without incident. I did have to replace the modem once. Authorization time is very acceptable and no one has ever said it takes too long. Dial up is affordable and reliable for us.
 
WSII change from dialup to Internet has a couple of options. With or without the washpay server. With the Washpay server, you can add SS bays, track everything real time, etc. For that you may need to update the motherboard & firmware, get an NIC board for it and the washpay server...it'll be $3k easy. If you just want it in the WSII, then your'll need a datatran ip modem, likely a firmware update and perhaps the mortherboard too. At least $1k. I personally would look/wait for the cryptopay solution or one of the other aftermarket solutions.

I switched to internet from dialup as I already have internet and cell phones and wanted to get rid of my $50/mth landline.

If you site can see the sky, you can get highspeed internet.
 
I might be totally wrong here... but..... Couldn't you call the manufacturer of the modem? The modem (if I remember correctly) is off the shelf and you could ask the manufacturer of the modem if they have an internet swap? Granted it will be 5k! :)
