I can get a plug in that will show who is on line and there is a Chat button and two or more of you could "chat". Does anyone use this on another forum, or what are your thoughts? It's not expensive to get, but I don't want to clutter up the Forum if no one is going to use it.

I know that we had it before, and it wasn't used much, but maybe it was ahead of its time.

Everyone wanted a rating system and now that it is on the way, not enough of you are filling out the form.

Being a resident dumba$$ who often needs help I would love such a feature.

sounds good to me. I would use it. But I would probably be a listener vs a talker as I have limited expereince.

IMHO - I hop on and off the website throughout the day, never long enough to sit and chat with folks. Thus, I don't feel the chat would enhance my use of the forum, nor would I probably use it.

Bill,
I am not a chatter but I get on the forum daily, and get alot of good information here,
I am sure some of the forum readers would enjoy it and I have no opinion either way, but will say that this forum ia very usefull asset to all who view it.

What I like about this forum is that I can read what people are thinking on my own time and not have to worry about missing something because I'm not in a chat room. If something of interest is discussed in chat, then I'm out of luck. Of course, I'm only one vote.

It sounds like it might be used more if there were chat events, such as a Q&A hosted by someone. The chat could be logged so those who miss it have a chance to read it later. We're not a bunch of internet geeks who sit at the computer all day with nothing better to do, thanks to the car washes.

Agree with much of these posts.

I would be more likely to chat if it were a scheduled event rather than a facebook-style feature.

My problem with those was always ending the conversation when I had to do stuff and the other person seemed less willing to end the chat.

I tried to have a scheduled chat time of 1 hour when Bill first tried this format some years ago. With a 3 hour difference in time zones for forum people, it is not easy to pick a time when all parties are available. It didn't work for me when I tried it the first time, but it might do OK now. I probably won't use it, but there may be some who will.

Email works the best for me with the time zones and all.

Uncle Sam :)
