Coin Vs Credit card

Hello -

Upgrading a self serve in SE PA - has been all coin/token for 30 yrs! - Moving into the world of credit cards - this is a big Deal - as Joe Biden would say this is a Big "Bleeping" Deal - Still cant believe he said that on an open Mic - but I digress ...

Looking at going the following route - $3.00 for 5 min coin / token or $5.00 for 10 min credit card swipe - CC will be count up and cut off at $20.00

Just would like opinions on this - -I am in between two competitive tunnel wash's - The tunnel express is as low as $7.00

In adding credit cards - what annual increase in revenue / bump is typical?

Do you have bonus time? My Cash and CC Minimum is the same for Bays but I am adding to Vacs which are $1.00 coin start and will be $2.00 for CC.

I am not a fan of putting credit cards on vacuums. I did this last summer & the ROI is going to be very very slow. I added cryptopay in the bays & it’s helped me out a lot very fast ROI. I am $6 start on CC in bays and $2.50 4mins with coins. On vacs $2.00 and $1.50 with coins. If I had to do it over I would have not added to vacuums in my case. Well worth it in bays people spend more time.

I find it less confusing with same price cash vs credit. My vacs are cash only, though I may add c/c to a vac or two now that I’m $2 for 6 min on vac.

My bays are $3 for 4min with a $3 min and count up on credit/debit with a $15 max pet swipe. At one point I was $20per swipe....that resulted in lots of calls from people not hitting the stop button. I reduced to $15 max and calls dropped off big time, I’m sure part of that is folks becoming familiar with things and my signage. My average credit sale is $8, so a 15 max pet swipe is plenty

My vacs have been getting broken into more and more lately. Bold thieves using portable cutoff tools and crowbars. I’m contemplating going just CC on my vacs. Solves three issues, break-ins, nasty gooey quarters, and calls about how someone lost .75 cents in the vac and they want a refund now.

Time will tell. My set up has 2 Vacs on an Island between each 2 bays. Closest to approach will have a sign and take CC. Upgrade is about $600 each.

I am considering going all CC. No paper currency or quarters or tokens. I'm about 80% now. It would cut down on a lot of hassles.

This is great advice.. as the only self serve in town I think 3.00 for 4 min is strong - I am at 3.00 for 5 min currently .. Adding cc - new chemicals / dryers etc - I think 3.00 4 min is fair.

I agree with everyone else, keep the prices the same. IF anything your CC should cost more as it is costing you more (You know paying your CC company).

any idea on how to get it out to my customers that I have cc readers now, I've got a sign out by the road saying this car wash is now accepting credit cards, and also have a sign on the from of the building and have a facebook page which has helped living in a small town, just looking for any other idea on pushing these credit card readers out. I have only had them a week and can already tell people spend more money with the count up feature because they arent trying to best the clock. I've had a couple people spend 15-20 dollar!

I have the small Count Up stickers (available from KR) near the meter boxes to help promote the swipers. I used a Ptouch sticker on those signs concerning the min and max $ plus the fact that the CC $ rate is the same as cash $ rate. Takes a little time but they catch on and appreciate the convenience of not needing to feed the meter.

Customers need multiple reminders to get a point.

It does take time. I’ve got c/c and bills in bays....amazing some customers think I’ve just added this.....I’ve taken cards and bills since I’ve opened.

FYI...the c/c sales that reach your maximum are often caused by people not understanding they need to press stop to end sale. You’ll like get calls on that. I’ve recently added a decal indicating such....and it helps a ton

Are Credit Cards really costing you more? This has been an ongoing discussion. How much is your time worth? With credit cards people spend how much more? I dont have to collect it, sort it, count it, take it to the bank or the safe and I dont have to worry about being jacked taking it wherever it goes! So does it really cost us? Technically yes it does, but I really enjoy waking up every morning drinking my cup of coffee and looking at my daily deposits made without me doing a thing. I have 2 locations, a 50 yr old location that we added CC about 6 years ago, we only do about 25-30% cc there. A location I just rehabbed and reopened a 1 1/2 years ago that does about 80% cc. Sorry to redirect the thread but thought a fitting comment for maybe further discussion. I know these were heavy discussions about the credit cards 5 or so years ago.

Crypto pay in my 2 SS bays is awesome. Very reliable. Great ROI. Easy; close to zero maintenance. I've had one glitch in 2 years and it was resolved by cycling power.

I'm $3 / 4 min no matter how you pay. My max is $10. Maybe I should up that figure...
