Since most of you operators take credit cards, I wanted to see if any of you have been hit with this new fee. I have an automatic set up on an Enterlink and just got the new statement. There is a $69.00 compliance fee that they say was put on tp make us better protected against card theft. Anyone else seen this? Sounds like crap to me.

I just reviewed my CC billing statement last night and didn't see any such fee. I thought the better protection had come from having to use the internet to authorize cards right away instead of batching them up at night.

Thanks for the timely responses. This just didn't pass the smell test.

I have been sent a letter explaining that in order to stay in compliance with new regualtions the bank is hiring a outside firm to check everyone that takes credit cards for compliance. I forget the fee amount exactly but it was around what you stated. Mine came from the bank I use not the CC companies. It is a one time fee.

Mac,
We received a letter today, also a call from our CC
processor in referance to a compliance fee when you ask them a question they appear to be ignorant about it and can not answer any questions.
Make us wonder if this is for real or just another way to charge more?

My bank sent it out and I do not deposit my blue pay accounts to this bank. Key bank is the one that has sent me the letter thus far.

The bottom line is that your bank will try to screw you if they can. I was approached by US Bank Investments, since I had a few bucks laying there. They talked me into some munis and told me that the mark up was small, turned out it was 10%, now we are doing the legal dance. You must pay attention to every damn thing that you do and who you do business with. Some will look you in the eye and screw you, some will wait until you turn your back, others will just be incompetent and do it by accident. Pay attention.

Just a little follow up. The processor I was using was, and note the tense of the word "was", Advanced Merchant Services. Not only were they dinging me a 69.00 fee, if I did not op out, I was automatically enrolled in 9.95/mo advanced member service, which among other things, provided free printer paper, which would not work on the Unitec. This company form talking to others has about 50,000 accounts, which means a nice $3,450,000.00 from compliance fees. Nice work if you can get it.

mac, I think these merchant service companies are really smart or scammy? :) The merchant starts out legit and they have legit parent companies. But it seems when the parent company wants an extra 3.5 million they add stupid fees to there accounts.... the next step (if you cancel) is the parent company calls and asks if you need an account at a good rate. :) Then when you tell them no.... they sell your info to some really scammy merchant companies... unless the parent company owns them also? :)

Yes I think it has rained everyday this year why? :)

I assumed the forum only recommended recent post.... which is way incorrect! 2009 is a little old.

Are you referring to the "Similar Threads" link below? It's there to help people looking for information like what's in the post they're reading. It's considered bad forum etiquette to revive old threads for no good reason.

REALLY! I HAD NO IDEA! THANKS! WHAT ABOUT ALL CAPS? :)

I would have never found this thread if the "similar threads" were similar...

I would vote to delete the whole thread.... I don't care. :)

The thread really contain no information.... that is actually why I added what happened to mac. This is a practice that actually happens and just happened to one of my clients.

Just like cable companies and "digital cable".... the merchants use pci compliance to try and make extra money.

I didn't know that...didn't care either. This really isn't that old. Someone on chevytalk revived one after 11 years! The "similar threads" thing...I was racking my brain wondering where Eric found it. I didn't really care that he posted to it. I was just poking fun because I was bored too. Heck Eric, go to the boneyard and dig up a few more ancient ones.
