We upgraded our computer system at ShurVend a few months ago to keep up with the new technology, so we have had a steep learning curve. On the morning I left on my trip to the mid-west last week, my computer froze up!! So I called my computer guy to fix it (and they made great promises), but my luck did not hold up. We had to take it in to find out we had a bad motherboard. Of course they have put in hundreds of motherboards and never had a bad one!!! I won the raffle!!!

They ordered a new one under warranty, and, wouldn't you know, they sent the wrong one. So we still sit here waiting for our server to get fixed. We can't receive emails or answer them or do anything else 'cause we are modern and tied to our computer.

So forgive us for not answering anything 'cause we can't; our records or all inaccessible. Next Monday we hope.

I am sorry you guys are running into these types of issues. Component failure is unfortunately part of the IT hardware business. For this reason we recommend only HP or Dell servers. with those companies, the manufaturer will send someone out to replace the failed component the same day or next day. It really can help limit downtime. In this world of overnight shipping, I hope that next Monday means the 29th of August and not Sept 5.

On a related note, their are realtive affordable services that can allow you access to see incoming email and respond to them in the event of a down server issue such as you have.

In my Full Time gig I am a technical manager for an outsourced IT firm. Feel free to send me a message and I would be happy to discuss some ideas to prevent this type of thing. I hate to hear when people have IT issues. While component failure cannot be completely avoided, the impact can be minimized.

We are back up and running after the unusual glitches (called human errors), but there is still some work to do to get everything right. I never could figure out why no one had time to do the job right the first time, but they always have time to do it over later!!!!!
