Convert JEAdams vac to electronic coin acceptor

I would like to convert my JEAdams vacs over from the imonex coin acceptor they came with to an electronic acceptor. Has anybody else done this? Is there anything else needed besides the new coin acceptor and a 24V transformer?

The first question I would ask is why are you doing this? What are you trying to accomplish?

I want something more reliable. The coin switch in the mechanical acceptors will start missing coins after a couple of years. I also like the idea of not accepting coins if there is a power failure.

I did the same conversion. 24V transformer with fuse is all I added. Other things to note:
- I think all the timers can run on 24v or 120v, not sure if you're planning on changing that too. something to be aware of anyway.
- I put in 1 transformer for every 2 vacs, and also run a couple electronic drop shelf vendors off the same transformer. Bolted the vendors to the light poles on the vac islands, we sell quite a bit of armor all and tire shine out of them. My point is, think about what else you might want to run off these transformers, and size them accordingly.

Imonex

I converted mine from Imonex to Slugbusters. The Imonex apparently could not be programmed to value a token at $1-- only value them at .25 cents.

The fit is real tight-- sometimes I have to stick something inside when closing the door to push the acceptor aside for enough clearance. And, I had to use a dremel and saw off part of the bottom of the slugbuster chassis to make it fit. In my opinion, the acceptors that came with my Adams vacs were clearly sub-par compared to the vacuum itself. And, I had slugbusters everywhere else already.

We converted our Doyle Vacuums over to Electronic Coin Mechs last spring so we could take & give a bonus for using dollar coins. By using the Dixmor timers we have an attractive display through a clear polycarbonate opening that we made for them. The displays are mounted lower than normal but from the road it is still attractive. People are crawling down low on their car seats vacuuming so they actually do gain the time remaining info when they happen to glance straight over or up. We feel it was an improvement. Did you ever test the Imonex for their slug resistance?

I had two slugs in the coin box today. I have had the vacs for around three years and this is the first time I recall getting any slugs.

No. I converted my J.E. Adams vacs to accept $1 secure tokens with an electronic acceptor and a 24v transformer. They have been doing just fine since 2005.

We just got 8 new JE Adams vacs about a year ago. They all came with electronic Imonex so they already had 24 volt power. It was the best thing we did. When we got them they were accepting slugs with the original acceptors. we switched to IDX.

You can add a 24V transformer and electronic acceptor with no other modifications IF you use an acceptor with a coin relay. Sensortrons and IDX both have that; Slugbuster doesn't. If it has the "Flat-Pak" AT-411E timer you can rewire it to run on 24V and still switch the 120V to the motors and you can use any electronic acceptor.
