Converyor Pushers and Chain

I have a 12 year old Hanna conveyor using a d88K chain along with 6 wheel low profile roller/pushers. I'm in the market to replace my rollers. Chain is halfway through its life and is in good shape.

Someone suggested to me to switch to a 458 chain and use the 4 wheel pusher system. This helps with not jamming in the sprocket area because the body assembly stem of the pushers are not as long.

I would have to replace my sprocket and forks to modify this. Is it worth it to do it?

How old are your chain and rollers?

chain is about 5 years old and rollers are 3 but they are done. Bought from Kleen-Rite 175 cars ago.

I'm assuming you meant 175K cars ago? Do you have a hydraulic or air take-up section now? You won't be able to use X458 if you have a spring take-up. If you're going with the 4 wheel direct connect roller, you'll need to install some additional parts. We're the largest supplier of Hanna parts in the country. What makes the electro zinc chain worth $25 a section more?

Other than the difference in my cost? The drop forged electro zinc chain is much more (double) corrosion resistant and in theory should last longer. Corrosion is the number 1 reason for chain failure. As a chain corrodes, it alters the pitch in the chain links and causes premature wear. This is not a zinc plating. A zinc plating would chip and peel if you hit it with a hammer. The electro zinc process is done in a vat where the zinc "attacks" the chain and penetrates .006% into the steel. If you hit this with a hammer it would dent and not peel. The X458 chain we sell is rated at 45K lbs. tensile strength, but has been tested and actual snap was over 60K lbs.
The difference in price between the 2 chains is $2.50 per foot. This is how it was explained to me.

Definitely not my experience. Contact surfaces are noticeably worn after 150K cars. This is the surface that contacts other conveyor surfaces as opposed to contact between chain links. Corrosion has little or no effect on this issue.
