credit card reader stoped working

Credit card reader just stoped working. It was fine last night but today nothing. I shut power on and off, the little red light comes on but will not read. Its just this one bay, tried many different cards and nothing, do these readers just go bad?

You bet they go bad. What credit card system do you have? It?s good to keep a spare reader on hand.

So, if a particular brand of reader goes bad a little too often, does the operator have the option to shop around for a better quality reader or is he stuck with whatever the OEM stays with?

Depends on the equipment, but most of them are very proprietary because of firmware programmed into them.
