Credit card upgrade to an American Changer Paystation

Well-known member
Have a customer with an older Paystation. He stopped taking credit cards (don't ask about that) for 2 years, and now wants to take them again. Well now the hardware and software are out of date and it will be around $3K to do the upgrades. Was curious if any one has had good results using Crypto Pay or some other reader?

Mac, he's got 2 options. Replace the American Paystation or go to Cryptopay. I would replace the Paystation, I hate American equipment. The Cryptopay works well with any Paystation.

This particular customer is too cheap to replace it. That's why he stopped card acceptance, because of the fees, Just trying to drag the guy into the 21st century.

I had to have a fire marshall inspection on a motor home I just bought. Of course, here in small town Ky. the inspector was someone I knew. He was filling out the form and was complaining about how it was not very well laid out. He stated "I wish the state would modernize these damn forms.", to which I stated "Says the guy with a flip phone that won't text." He just chuckled a bit and agreed.

When I bought my car wash I had a couple of the old modem version of american paystations and no one wanted to give me a merchant account. I found a guy that would give me one through Newtek. Let me know if you want his contact info.

I have 8 American units all with dial up/ modem; all 10+ years old ; using TSYS as my provider. No issues, ever, other than two readers replaced over the years.

washnvac, that is exactly what this guy has. When I called American Changer I was told that we needed to upgrade to an internet connection and get a new board. Thanks for the info.

Mac-- I do know that if I have a complete board failure, then I will have to upgrade to the new. Maybe that is the case with his; that the board is actually bad?

They tried to tell me I'd have to upgrade the board, claiming I wouldn't be able to find anyone to be my merchant processor but I proved them wrong. :)

Obviously not having the phone line will save some money over time. Cryptopay has better merchant fees than the provider I found. So it's probably worth the upgrade if the guy can afford it.

Okay help, I bought a new wash. It has the American changer autowash paystation. I already have accounts with TSYS and Worldpay but neither would do it for American changer. Finally a subsidiary of chase said okay. Now from what I understand I have to integrate my chase coding with American changer.
I’ve called everyday for the last two weeks. No answer, no call back, I’ve even sat on hold for hours nothing... does anyone have a better number I could call?
Thanks

Randy, I do like cryptopay. I have them at a different wash. For now I’m just looking to get it online while I work on other projects.
I would like to upgrade it in the future however.
