cross promotion ideas?

A new auto service center is opening 2 doors down from us in a couple of weeks. They will do oil change, light auto repair and tires. We are a exterior tunnel express detail and full detail operation. I would like to do some sort of cross promotion that would benifit both businesses has anyone done this or have any sugestions.

I own an auto mall next to one of my car washes.
When I opened the wash I gave all the tenants free car wash coupons for 6 months so that their customers can get a FREE car wash.
It worked so well I extended it for another 6 months.
Once in awhile I have a customer ask me if I would do that promotion again...after 18 years.
You could try it for 3-4 months and see how it works out.

I have an lube/tire place next door and we talk a fair bit. If I or they have a promotion, we will give out some fliers/coupons. I can't say its worked out very well, but doesn't hurt either.

I've done cross promotions with other with great disappointments.

As distance increases between stores, the attractiveness of redeeming a free carwash or discounted oil change off site decreases. Even two doors down, can make a huge difference. Distance takes the convenience out of the impulse purchase.

Are you looking to the new store because you can’t squeeze anymore out of your store alone?
