Cryptopay for Unitec Wash Select

I need to update my Wash Selects that are still using dial up. While my dial up CC works fairly well and is very cheap rate wise, I want to make them more reliable and accept apple pay/samsung pay etc. Originally I purchased two Nayax units to accomplish this but never installed them because the interface is clumsy and I believe they would have caused more trouble than solutions. Cryptopay looks to be the least expensive option to modernize these paystations, especially with the introduction of Cryptotap, without dropping $20,000+ to replace each machine. Those that have made the switch, what can you educate me on that I'm not going to learn until after I install them? I've watched their videos and tried to find all the caveats and short comings but there's always things you don't realize until after the fact.

Such as, what happens when the customer swipes or taps BEFORE selecting their wash? Does that purchase sequence work or do they have to re-swipe/tap after selecting?

If my PDQ goes out of service and the WS says 'car wash closed' is it safe to assume that a customer can't swipe their card and somehow get charged because they're not paying attention?

Have you had any issues with the Cryptotap that you weren't anticipating?

Has anyone converted but kept the WS swiper for Unitec Wash Pass cards or is that not possible?

Given the choice would you do it again?

I'm also considering doing several Hamilton ACW5's as well. Is that integration essentially the same? Same pro's and con's or do they have their own set of issues.

I think you can swipe and then select it or vice versa. I have had cryptopay on my iba's and ss for years with no major problems other than a lot of customers cards won't read and they end up leaving. Funny thing is I can walk right up behind them and my visa cc will work everytime. Cryptopay should really try and update their swiper to a dual sided reader in my opinion. To try and help with the problem I added the Tap readers less than a month ago. So far this month 9% of my transactions at my busiest site have been Tap to Pay.

Thanks for the feedback. When you say the cards won’t read, you mean that the Swiper doesn’t acknowledge that the card was swiped not that the card comes back declined correct?

When somebody uses tap and pay how do you know? Does it display on your dashboard differently?

Is there a way to do fleet accounts?

The customer swipes but it says bad card read. I can swipe my card and it will work immediately. I honestly think it's the thickness of the cards that the reader does not like. Some of my customers can have brand new cards and it won't work. It seems to be the cards from the small local hometown banks that don't work.

When someone uses tap it will say EMV-TAP and only the last four digits of the number. No way to see their name is only downfall.

I don't have any fleet accounts but I do think you can use fleet with crypto pay. I would hop on their online chat and they can answer all your questions. They have great technical support.

I can't say for sure but in 2019-2020 I ran a wash for about nine Months that had cryptopay swipes on WSIIs( no tap). Zero issues.

I got a little info back from Cryptopay regarding one of my questions. They confirmed that either payment sequence works, swipe then select wash or vice versa which is good news.

They also provided some pricing for their fleet service but considering I only have the local police/city hall as a fleet customer I don't think that would be worth it for me. Somewhat pricey but if you had a bunch of fleets their interface looks nice.

Gift/Loyalty cards is another option they threw out there which caught my interest. This is a service provided through Worldpay and has some options I don't fully understand yet as their cut sheet lacks in terms of details. What I gather is that I would buy "x" amount of gift cards which would be pre-loaded with a certain dollar value, say $20. The more cards bought at a time the better price you get. Then I could sell or give away the cards to customers and if I opted to, I could have a loyalty program where the customer could add more money and reload their card to get 'cash back' which would encourage them to use the loyalty card and my wash. So for example, Joe Customer loads $100 on his worldpay card through their portal and by doing so gets 10% added and now has $110 on his card. As I understand it, the customer can swipe the card or load it into their phone wallet to use the tap feature, I avoid any CC charges which somewhat offsets the cash back I offered and hopefully the customer now has some loyalty to my wash and washes more often. What I don't know is when I get the customers $100, when they re-load or when they visit each time less 10%? Does anyone have experience using their loyalty/gift cards? Do they work as advertised? Have they helped to entice customers to wash more often? Am I close to understanding how they work?

I did not know that. I'm going to have Mrs. Ourtown try that. (I don't use mobile wallets)

Ourtown, does that mean you have used or offer the loyalty card? Can you direct me to the portal used to re-load the card, I'd like to see what it looks like?

Our cards came "loaded" with $0 amount so we have to "increase value" when selling a new card. We use a Verifone VX520 that we bought through Worldpay to both use as a credit card point of sale and modify store card values. You get your money when you sell a gift card. We have sold many with cash as payment. If you sell one with the POS then it shows up as a separate daily deposit from Worldpay to your bank account just like from Cryptopay. If the customer reloads the card themselves at a later time then you get the money deposited to your account the same way. You do not get any money as the customer uses them.

1) If the WS is out of service because your in-bay is down is the cryptopay somehow disabled as well? I would assume so, but I vaguely remember one of the retrofit card solutions having an issue where customers that weren't paying attention somehow being able to have their card charged when the wash was closed.

2) Since their isn't an option for a paper receipt once you add crypto does the WS still ask you if you want one? Can the voice prompts still be used or do you need to lose the that feature? I haven't looked through the WS menu in forever to see if receipts is an option you can simply toggle off.

We have a Goldline and not a Wash Select so I'm not sure what it will do. Our GL does not have a receipt printer and I'm not sure if someone can still get charged if it says "wash closed".

Thanks APW. After looking into it I think I'll be ordering two WS Cryptopay conversions in the next month. It seems to be the easiest, least expensive way to upgrade without spending a small fortune.

Just got my two Cryptopay retro kits for my Wash Selects. Kinda pissed off that they don't provide the new lexan face like they had advertised. Went back and watched their video on their website today. The very first video goes through all the components that are included with the kit, specifically new Lexan faceplate which looks beautiful. Second video describes installation of the new Lexan faceplate....oh but wait...they added a slide in the middle of the installation that lets you know you'll now receive a decal instead. How informative. Decal seems less than impressive. Pretty flimsy, nothing heady duty or impressive about this thing. I'd pay extra for the Lexan.

Shame on me I guess for not reading all the fine print for changes since I last read it all.

Interesting info. We have a Unitec Portal TI. The software can handle gift cards or codes as well as has a loyalty program at no extra charge (unless buying cards) I give out codes for the loyalty program. Does the Wash Select not offer this?
My other question is I have Cryptopay in all SS bays and vacuums. I had looked into seeing if I could change to a cryptopay swiper on the Portal but it doesn’t seem to be an option. I wonder how does Unitec offer this option on only some of their products?

Unitec does not offer the Cryptopay retrofit and has nothing to do with it. Genesys Technologies developed the Cryptopay kit for the Wash Select all by themselves and offer it as an aftermarket product.

APW I have the same thing going on. Customer's card doesn't read, even though it's new and clean. Then I swipe my old Visa and it works. Crypto tried to troubleshoot it 3 times before I said Stop. So I just got a brand ner reader and will put it on later today.
