Crytopay card reader placement

I have small coin boxes that measure 6 inches wide by 11 inches tall. To accommodate the Crytopay card reader, I was planning on mounting the display timer on the wall above the meter box and having new faceplates made. The box is recessed into the wall approximately 3 inches. What would be considered the minimum required clearance from the top of the card reader to the top of the box. would 2.5 inches clearance above the card reader be sufficient clearance? As a second option, I could also mount the reader between the upper and lower openings for the coin acceptor. (I saw this setup on the Crytopay website). If I went this route, would the card reader interfere with the insertion of quarters? Would quarters get caught up in the reader slot? Any ideas would be appreciated.

In the early days of credit card acceptance (pre CryptoPay), I mounted the similar-sized ‘OneCard‘ swipers on 1/4” aluminum plate and secured them to the wall next to the meter box.

I drilled through the side of the meter box (into the brick) to run the swiper’s cable.

FastSigns made Lexan “picture frame” instruction signs that completely surrounded the aluminum plates. (Lexan with the printing/picture on the back.)

Leave the area below the swiper clear of lettering...the credit cards scratch that spot as the customers run their cards.

I've seen the same thing done with a sheet of plastic. It would be easy to cut a groove in the backside for the wires.

How much space do you recommend to have under the swiper for follow-thru?

We recommend having at least an entire card length on top and bottom of the card reader. Ideally you would allow a little extra to give the customer the ability to cleanly and quickly swipe their card through the reader.

You do not want the customer having a difficult time completing a card swipe. Starting or ending a card swipe with the credit card partially in the read track will make it difficult to complete a proper card swipe. You want some wiggle room at both the top and the bottom of the card reader to accommodate that. The entire length of credit card plus an 1/8' should be fine. The more the better though.
