I’ve seen it done and it seems to work best on the machines that apply it rather than depending on the customer to drive by it while entering - it’s more consistent and thorough when the machine applies it. I do not have personal experience, though.
Have it on a wash I owned, an Istobal. You can program it to apply just on wheels or the whole rocker panel. Hit it then with high pressure rinse and the wheels came out sparkling. Only time it didn’t work well was if the car had it on for a very long time.

Not sure you read my post correctly. I adjusted the dwell time till I got clean wheels. Should have mentioned that on the Istobal you can order it with wheel brushes or HP spray. The brushes clean well but stick out a foot on either side. That makes it hard for duallys. And someone will hit them. With HP the spray bars stay inside the frame.
