Before too long we will be replacing our foaming brush wall booms. The foaming brush replacement boom will be one of two Z Hydrospray(Mosmatic) booms mounted close to the center in 3 of our bays. We seem to have fairly good luck with the 5/16" or the 3/8" curly hoses for not entangling like the 1/4" ones that we tried. Any observations from those of you who may have tried the curly hoses specifically on a Z boom?

I've used car washes that have the Z booms with the curly hoses and do NOT like them at all. The hose ends up hitting you as you go around the car. I've also used car washes that have the Z boom with just a straight 1/4 in hose with much better results. To me I would stick with the straight hose for customer satisfaction.

By straight hose, do you recommend a 1/4" 3,000 psi hydraulic style hose even for the foaming brush even though it is way overkill in terms of pressure rating?

I agree with mjc...The curly hose can slap you and the car when using it on the FB. I use a 3/8 ID low pressure hose from KR on my FB: http://www.kleen-ritecorp.com/p-11214-15-red-38-foamy-hose-38-mpe.aspx Its only $12.99 pre-made with ends.

I do use the curly hose on my Tri-Foam guns. It works a lot better on the foam gun since you're not working it back and forth like the FB....The Curly hose does get tangled occasionally, the only downside I see....Its kind of cool to watch the foam spiraling down to the gun...A neat side affect...

That's been my choice for many years. Durability is the prime reason...lighter weight, so they bang less against the customer's cars...and they evacuate nicely with my winterizer system. For my wall-mount booms, I have them assembled with 3/8" thread crimps...boom to floor plus 4 feet seems to be the perfect length.

One suggestion; if your brushes store horizontally...install a swivel into the supply end of the wand and a street ell into the swivel. That way, the hose hangs straight down when the brush is stored, eliminating the need for a "bend restrictor".

I learnd about using HP hose for the FB. Lighter weight hose will allow kinks which stops the weep.

That does help, but I'd use a 45° elbow. I was at a wash and watched customers using the brush with a 90° el, and it was awkward for them because the hose would keep twisting up or the end would bang them in the hip. I'd still use a bend restrictor too.
