cut a slot in vac door

I need to cut a 1" long X 3/8" wide slot in my stainless steel vac doors. I've done a few by drilling a couple of holes first, then using a dremel tool/bit to tie them together. I'm looking for in easier wya. Any suggestions?

A plasma torch will cut through it like butter. Look for a local welding shop that specializes in stainless steel - they ought to have one.
