Cycle Stop Valve

Get a hardness test kit. Hardness is a scale, your water at home might be 3 or 4 grains of hardness and 10 grains at the wash, that would yield very different results. I have one location with well water that is 27 grains, and a very high iron content. I wouldn't use that anywhere without softening
When you know how hard the water is, you can make an educated decision on how to use it or whether or not it is worth using.

I looked back in my notes from when I had it checked by a softener salesman. It says the hardness is 12 and to add 8 for the iron, 20 grains per gallon total. And it says the PH is good.
