A couple of weeks ago found a Dewalt cordless hammerdrill in the garbage.
No Battery of course. Batteries are $80 and charger $60. I had found another cordless in the thrash before, to use as a trade in. Dewalt has a trade in till May1
Trade in(any) old drill, battery and charger, and get a new Dewalt Drill driver-2 batteries and charger for $100. For $20 more got the lightweight Li-ion Batteries. This will be great not to run a cord on wet floors. only a couple of
days left, but thought it might be what one of you guys could use.

Good info - I'm not a huge fan of Dewalt but for $100 it would be great. I threw out a Milwaukee cordless a few years ago because one battery crapped out, then the charger went. It would've cost $170 for one battery and a new charger.

I got into a somewhat heated discussion with a Dewalt rep on the phone a while back. I had a cordless about 18 months old that the batteries had died. The difference in buying a new set or replacing the batteries was about $20. The rep finally admitted that this was crap. When looking for new ones I like to look for one with an extended warranty. For $100 I could be tempted to go there again.

You are right on the price of batteries, but cell phone batteries are all $50 and
they are miniature,They gave me an extended warranty on the Li-ion and drill for another $20. Their trade in on my junk one was $100 off. So For $140 I got two batteries and the Drill Driver, Has concrete hammer setting, a case and 30 min charger. The warranty covers the batteries. I have never had a real cordless drill before. The thought of spending $200 on the thing wasn't realistic, when all i had to do was run a cord thru the wet bays. The promo ends May 1.
Not trying to promote them, but thought it might be useful, for those with dead batteries that cost $80

SW Indiana melon fields.
When looking for Dewalt batteries check ebay. You can usually get them for about 50 bucks, brand new, genuine Dewalt. I have 5 drills and most of their other tools that fit that battery.

keep in mind that there is a difference between a drill and a driver. Cordless drills are more expensive but more versatile - useful for drilling and driving. Drivers are designed for driving screws, not for drilling.

Also, I learned that unless you get the right charger, leaving the battery in the charger shortens its life. Letting them go dead is also bad.

I have a bunch of B&D and got a special charger that turns itself off, when its charged.

The batteries would last a lot longer if they charged slower. If they made the chargers switchable between an overnight trickle charge and a 1-hour fast charge when needed, well, they'd probably sell a lot less batteries so I'm sure they won't ever do that.

Along the same line, I had a very positive experience with a battery problem in my Lincoln cordless grease gun. Battery went dead shortly after warranty period. They sent me a new battery and a charger for free.
