Big, I'm looking into adding a nice new addition to my SS wash just for the pet washing..My plan is to put a lot of attention into detail for decorating the place and to give the customer a fun atmosphere along with some nice wash tubs(possibly up to four tubs) There are no other set up like the one I'm planning anywhere near our location and I'm near heavily populated towns. My question to you is do you think with enough advertising I could at least average 8-10 dogs a day? I know its a tough question to answer but I'm just looking for your gut feeling.

dogwasher,

There are so many variables and just because you don't have competition now, doesn't mean it won't come later.

Having said this, yes 8 to 10 dogs a day is within the realms of realistic. However, you'll need to build up to that number and that can take a while, especially if its a new service in your area (like mine was).

You can only do so much advertising before you eat into any profits, so word of mouth and perhaps some free publicity from local press would help kick things off (like Bubble's wash). But the biggest effect long term will be word of mouth. The most effective advertising I ever did was very cheap (less than $100). Every year there is a big dog show in my town, so I printed out some flyers and had my kids put them on windshields a few times during the weekend. They would first look to see if the car was local (by the place or the dealer sticker), if it was, they would put one on...if out of town, they would skip the car. That would ensure we got the local dog owners and spectators, not the out of towners.

There are other indirect benefits to having the dog wash facility. You will get different people on the property, many drive-by's, curious about it. That will give you an opportunity to sell to them.

It sounds like in your location, careful planning and keeping the place clean will be the only barrier to success.

About the windshield advertising----It might be wise to check local ordinances.
