Hello just wondering if dog washes are very much profitable? I have been reading much on them and notice that many car washes have them now. I would just like to know if its really worth the money to put in a dog wash? To buy a complete setup for sure is not cheap. Just would like some more information about them.

Thank you

What was the last 'cheap' thing you added at the wash that was profitable?

Even a new vending machine that will generate sales isn't 'cheap'.

I'm looking at a dogwash still and have been for years.

For me I am pricing, getting things together and fine-tuning my ideas.

I will be doing more at the Kleen Rite show in a week.

2010 was tough in my area; poor winter weather as well as tightening business climate here; a dog wash is a future plan.

You have to treat it like another business; write a business plan, budget, sales projections and see if it pencils out.

I'm still in the equipment quote gathering process.

I would agree with Waxman, that you need to do your research so that you can make the smartest decision that you can. The dogwash reminds me when the foam brush was new and presoak and all of the other changes that have come to the industry. IMO there won't be anything that will make you rich. It will be just another profit center that takes your babysitting. Car washing has always had the reputation that you just went by and collected the money. If that was ever true, it isn't any longer.

My best advice is don't do anything with borrowed money. Today debt, as it has always been is your biggest threat. Build it and they will come, but rarely as fast as you expect. Just like a glass front vendor, it will pay for itself, but just not as fast as the bank's payments.

I have a customer who has 2 Dog Wash tubs at his wash. He does about $700 to $900 a month from both tubs. He thought that it would be higher than that but it is what it is, they’ve been installed now about 4 years. It started out gang busters but after the newness wore off it dropped off. The biggest problem he has is keeping it clean and the smell down. He has to clean it twice a day on most days. He has told me a couple of times that he wishes he’d never put them in, too much Labor.

Cleaning 2X/day is too much labor? How much does he clean his wash bays??? Mine always seem to need cleaning!
