I get my dumpster dumped weekly. Being in the subtropics in south FL, and with god knows what gets put in the trash cans, the odor can sometimes get to weapons grade quality. Not to mention the sometimes cloud of flies. Anyone know something relatively cheap to spray or sprinkle to control the odor?

Like jack said , I also dump bleach in the dumpster whenever I catch an odor. Even before they come to empty.

We have a 11/2 yard dumpster that is emptied twice a week. What it gets smelling real nasty we push the dumpster into one of the bays, pull the plug out of the bottom and rinse it out or on garbage day we'll be there with a hose at the ready to rinse out the dumpster after it's been dumped, then have the water and muck dumped into the garbage truck. On garbage day we have to be at the car wash because we sometimes a lot more garbage than what we can get into the dumpster. Our dumpster rots out at the bottom in about 2 years from all the wet mud and etc. that goes in there.

Thanks for the replies. I have a small dumpster behind the wash and to get twice weekly pickup would cost me about $100 more per month. Bleach sounds much cheaper.

Wow! I must get a lot of trash. At one location I have and 8 yard that is emptied twice a week.
You do get a lot - I have an 8 yard and it's emptied only once a week, and I feel like I get a lot of trash. This is what I get on a typical Saturday or Sunday if I can't get to the wash twice a day.

That’s terrible. I’ll bet you have other trash cans that are not overflowing that customers didn’t bother to walk over to.

Instead of Buying liquid bleach you may want to try buying swimming pool tablets then when the dumpster is emptied putt a coupe of gallons of water in the dumpster - see where it settles and throw a tab in the puddle It will dissolve over theweek. . Lots less stuff to have to go to the store and buy / carry.

Our dumpster has multiple drain holes in it. It sounds like most of you guys don't have those. Could it be that Mac's dumpster is holding some rain water and with the heat is rotting the garbage? If it drained out maybe it wouldn't rot as bad but then again it might not make any difference.

Have you considered a garden sprayer to apply bleach to the whole inside? It would take less bleach and might do a better job, you know there's "garbage water" on every surface.

Don't you guys ever wash out your dumpster? We wash ours out when it start to smell bad. In the late spring and summer it's often, this time of the year now that it's getting colder we won't have to wash them out until spring, once it gets warmer the dumpster will start to smell bad.

We had a site that was identical. We ended up removing all trash cans other than the cans in the vac islands. In addition we added stainless trash can covers. It took about a week for people to figure out that they needed to find elsewhere to throw excessive trash, but we have seen a tremendous difference with the amount of trash and how much cleaner the site looks. By adding the cover, it kept people from stacking their trash bags from home or large boxes in the can. Only trash put in is what fits in the opening. All the extra trash cans throughout the wash that we thought was a good idea only created more trash.

My dumpster has organically created drain holes. It is only by dumb luck that I don't get the volume that others do.
