Electric motor failed

My motor for the trolley on my hydrospray failed.
I can't get the motor off the transmission/gear drive for the trolley.
I spoke with the gear drive mfg. and he said because of the wet environment, it is probably corroded on pretty good.
Anybody got any ideas how to seperate the motor from the gear drive.
I'm thinking, cut off most of the armature. Drill and tap the remaining and use a slide hammer to get it apart.

I don't think I would cut the armature off, but tap the end as is and try your slide hammer idea. If you cut the armature and it doesn't work you won't have much to work with for your next idea.
I would start by giving it a good over night soak in wd-40. By soak I don't mean "spray it down" but actually submerge it in wd-40 or whatever solvent/penetrating oil you can get in a gallon jug. You need to try to loosen the bond between the motor and transmission.
 
Take it to an electric motor shop. They would also likely have the motor to replace it with. Another option if you get an identical motor is to disassemble the new motor and use the old stator. This reuses the front bearing and the old rotor.
 
I would thread 4 longer bolts into the c-face motor holes (the ones that hold the gearbox to the motor). Then hold a rod to the bolt head and drive it with a heavy hammer. If there isnt enough room, use a wedge attachment on a portapower.

If they would have used anti-sieze on assembly, this would be so much easier.
But the motor did last 20 years.

My motor is a Baldor VL1304 1/2 hp.
Found VL1301 1/3 hp.
All specs are the same but the hp rating.
Think it will work for me?
 
Yeah you got it disassembled but how? That was your original question so please tell how you got it done.

I knew I should have taken some pics.
I cut the armature at the fan.
Got the fan off.
Cut the armature again at the front bearing. There is a step on the armature preventing the bearing from sliding to the rear.
Slid the bearing and housing assembly off.
Drilled and tapped the armature. Screwed a piece of all-thread into the armature. Slid a piece of 1/2 " pipe over the all-thread and armature, against the gear drive/coupler.
Some washers and a nut and pressed the remaining armature out of the gear box.
Does that make sense? :confused:
