I have 10 position 2 stack Electroswitch rotary switches that won't even last a year. The meters are only 2 years old and this is the second time i've had to replace them. Is this common? The switches won't turn when they fail.

Get yourself some seal nuts...

and some silicone grease...

Squeeze some grease into the switch‘s stem and use the seal nut instead of the nut supplied with the switch.

This is especially important if your coin boxes are inside the “wet zone” of the bays. It won’t stop the problem but it will extend the life of the switch.

When they get hard to turn I've spayed mine with a penentrant ( I use sili-kroil) and within 24 hours they turn easy again.

What they all said.

If you want to tear a stiff one apart (it'll be tough to get it put back together) to just see what's going on. The stiffness is from where the rod goes through the housing or threaded part of the switch. Apply a very generous glob of that grease on the stem where it enters the housing and then screw on that Digikey nut.

I use the boot and Sil-Glyde. I always have some on hand because I do my own brakes. It's much thicker than o-ring or faucet grease, but it still flows better into crevices and is not going to wash away.
