Hi all,
I have always been wondering why most entry systems have hoppers instead of coin recyclers (like the Mars Cashflow 690). Why do I have to have hundreds of dollars sitting in a hopper out in the open and the need to fill them up as well? But there must be a reason. In 6 years of operation of one of those recyclers I've never run out of coins. Maybe someone can enlighten me? :)

Or maybe there are more of those entry systems out there that I don't know of...

I'm not sure that I understand your system, but my Wash Select 2 has a hopper with a dispenser on the bottom of it to dispense quarters as change after selecting a wash. Anyone who pays with quarters (not very many) the coins drop into the hopper and get reused for change. But I still have to add quarters because I get a lot of $10 bills and need to give them $2 change. I would like to eliminate paying with coins altogether due to nitwits stuffing coins into my credit card reader and putting all kinds of slugs and junk into the coin slot. I dispense 6 times as many coins as I recieve for payment. 2.7% of my IBA reciepts are in coins.

The coin changers that are used in the vending machines, such as the Mars Cashflow 690 use a MDB protocol and will not work with any of the ACW’s. They also do not have the required coin capacity that is required for an ACW. Friday morning I dumped $100 in quarters into the ACW, this morning it was almost empty and I dumped in another $250 in the hopper. We lose more coins from the ACW than we gain. We only give change when you buy a wash. Some of the other operators in our area dispense, Tokens or Dollar coins from the ACW hoppers. Using a coin changer like a Mars Cashflow 690 is a good idea but you’d have to reinvent the wheel to make it work and I don’t the equipment manufacturers are going to do that.

Reds, If your using a , Neuron surface mount card reader there is a shim available that tills out the card reader the prevent coins from getting stuck in the reader, the shim makes the coins roll back out of the card reader.

My entry system has been doing this for the last 6 years without running out of coins even once. BUT I am not in the US. So, you might be right with the US currency. Unfortunately, that company went broke so I have to eventually look for something else.

JustClean,

It sounds like your system with the hopper was & hopefully will continue to work out well. It goes without saying that the practicality hinges on fewer coins (bulk) needed to recycle &/or return to the customer. By fewer coins ... the larger denomination coins make more sense than what our more populous USA is doing limiting itself with just quarters only. If as many of us as possible would help lobby for proper dollar coin availability in the USA ... I believe the dynamic for the Global manufacturers would change ... & for the better!
