Entry Wizard 1.0 "sorry, unable to process your credit card at this time"

I recently had my Entry Wizard crash. A very good
friend who is an electrical engineer identified a problem in the bios
because of what he feels was a back up battery failure on one of the boards. He replaced the battery. The computer boots fine and everything seems to be good accept that it will not process credit cards. When you swipe a card the screen "cannot process your card at this time". The loaner computer our distributor gave us works fine with all the same serial components,
so I know it is not the swipe. I think that something needs reconfigured as
though it is a new installation. I copied the AEC DB file and the
ICverify.set file from my other entry wizard that is working just like I did
when I received the loaner. Is there any documentation on the initial set
up for entry wizard 1.0. My computer guru said the serial ports might need
reconfigured. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Buzzie

Since the BIOS battery failed, the BIOS would have reverted to its default settings. Go into the loaner system's BIOS settings and copy them to yours. It's probably an IRQ port that needs to be configured.

Our entry wizard 2.0 has been having a lot of issues lately with "Sorry, this card cannot be approved." Our network never appears to go down, and it has no rhyme or reason as it happens on different card brands. Every time a customer has an issue, I can run my Swipe at the BAy fleet card and it will process, every time. This has happened on new cards as well as old, and I clean my readers weekly. It always takes a while to reject card, as if it is trying to go validate card. Could this be tied to this BIOS battery issue? Nothing seems to fix it, rebooting the EW2.0, my router or DSL modem.

Hi Allan here from Australia. I have had this issue even with a brand new reader. I replaced the cable to the reader and it fixed the problem, on every card every time. When opening the door to the EW2.0 the cable is flexed and must wear from the little plug. Hope this helps if it is still an intermittent problem.

The ew2 is just an off the shelf computer. The mb is a lot newer then the ew1. The bios is probably plug in play compatible.... No configuring IRQ stuff. I don't remember if the cc reader is USB. But the os for the unit is booting from a thumb drive. You could watch the boot up for error? Also enter the bios and check for errors? (With a keyboard.)

I believe the reason your fleet card would work is because that information is stored locally and the ew2 does not have to hit the net. Which would mean the ew2 can not connect to the net? Maybe a network cable problem?

Disclaimer: I don't use an ew2 anymore its setup in my basement though. :) Could be totally wrong.
