IMO, the problem with Jim, is that he can find or can't delegate to employees. thus, he does everything, there are only 24 hours in his day. Hopefully, he can solve this.
I have done a few things to my etowah valley boxes that have helped the card reading problems that a few have mentioned. I did convert over to all nylon mounting screws for the reader. I went further by using rubber 3M tape along the entire back side of the reader before mounting it with nylon screws to the coin box so that nothing metal is touching the coin box. Then around the whole reader I used silicone to keep any water out. You should also make sure the green grounding wire from the readers is left unhooked going into the timer. SInce doing this I have had no problems.
I have all metal screws holding the card reader to the face. Obviously this is a major part of the problem. I went to the local menards store and they dont have nylon screws....so I will call jim at etoway tomorrow. hopefully he will have 16 extra.
I should have posted this problem HERE 6 months ago...I would have allot more happy customersif I had!
When I ordered my credit card reader boxes it took me 3 months to actually get them ordered. After countless emails being ignored I had to just start calling everyday. You will have to do all the legwork. They are not going to call you or email you.
I bought replacement nylon screws at Lowes- they had the right ones.
I will concur with some others here. It's gotten very hard to get in touch with Jim.
Merchant fees plus long distance fees run roughly 10% of sales with bluepay. I could get a monthly unlimited long distance, but so far the price of per call has been less on average than what unlimited plan costs. It essentially costs me .06 in LD fees for each transactions, two calls at .03 each. The service from Amanda at Bluepay has been good, but the fees are higher than what I would like.
I've been following numbers and there doesn't seem to be an appreciable increase in SS business from card sales, but I now have a business partner (the merchant processor) that gets a cut of my business. At this one wash I keep detailed income records so I plan to do a more in-depth study at the one year mark next month.
Other than three customers that have been charged 130.00 on their card, the system has been reliable. It is much less expensive than most other systems available.

Have you checked voltage and made sure that all of your bays are using the same phase? Are your swipes issolated from the faceplate using nylon screws?[/QUOTE]
Eric,
I see that you talked about nylon screws. Where did the issue of nylon screws come from?
I am really struggling with the decision to install credit card readers in my SS bays. There are a few postings where people have seen positive results but there are just as many that have not seen any diifference. On top of that, I am not thrilled with the idea of having more equipment to maintain and credit card charges to dispute.
Based on the postings I have read, I would have to say that chances are 50/50 that installing CC readers will not increase income. However, all the newer carwashes in my area are built with CC readers and I think I will end up installing them just because I don't want my wash to appear dated or lacking. Also, I see a lot of younger people paying with debit cards so I could see losing customers at some point in the near future because they don't carry cash.
Mel, From my observations, most people are making more money as a result of CC. The problems sound like equipment headaches in some cases and as usual constantly looking for the best merchant provider.
I agree with keeping up with the progress, it might have been better if you had them first but that option is gone. The other benefit is less cash to process.
