Evaluate Damage

So I had a regular come in saying these scratches showed up on her car after using our wash. Keep in mind she let me know days 3 days after the fact. Both h my machines are mark vii. The one she use was the combo wash. She sent me pics and I haven’t put eyes on it yet but do you all see what I’m seeing. Scratches are swirled going left to right. Top brush obviously goes front to back. How are you guys handling this. This lady is super nice and calm and has always used the touchless part of the combo until now and she sees this. How are you handling this? Thanks!!

That is mostly likely the beginning of clear coat failure. It seems to happen more often with dark paint and southern locations. I have seen it a few times in PA. It looks like scratches but it is actually the clear coat cracking. It seems that Chevy clearcoat is more likely to crack this way as it fails.

There are a lot of threads like this online: https://www.sonicownersforum.com/forum/threads/hey-chevy-my-paint-clear-coat-has-failed.23215/
The second picture of the post I just linked has similar lines that look like scratches.

Clearcoat is definitely failing from the looks. Didn’t know it would scratch like that. Thanks for sharing !!

Kind of curious that an A1 customer would bring this attention all of a sudden. If she was a loyal customer who took care of her car by frequent washing she would see the slow progression. Do you have cameras at your lot where you can see before and after wash videos to show that it wasn't your wash?

Kind of makes me think that this was damaged by something (not saying your carwash) otherwise she would have seen this progressing over the months/years if it is her clearcoat failing. Yeah I studied cameras and not good enough to see

So I just explained to her that if it was the top brush the lines would be straight, not swirled. Either way she didn’t argue one bit and said she understood. Nice as could be. It is odd. Maybe she knew and was just trying to take advantage of my kind , calm and gentle nature 😬. Thanks to those that commented!! Always appreciated!!
