The Dept. of Industrial Relations has contacted me and asked if I would convey the following info to you.

Apparently, in CA's effort to save the planet without completely screwing you AB236 has been signed in to law, in Oct. that extended the requirements to register all car washes and polishing businesses until Jan. 2014.

This bill is mostly geared toward tunnel washes and detailers. Self service washes that don't take control of the car are generally exempt. The bill requires each wash to obtain a bond. This bond will be used in the event that a carwash goes broke and cannot pay its workers. So far the fines alone have netted over 2 million dollars for the State of California. It also makes the carwashes register with the state for compliance.
