Happy 2018, everyone.
Does anyone have any funny self-serve stories to share for the next issue of SSCWN? Pat Hall shared a great one regarding maggots for our Winter issue.

Let me know either by commenting here or by writing to me at debrag@sscwn.com :)

This is not really a funny story but pretty interesting. I had a guy drive into one of the washes and steal a small item from the wash. I had pretty good video of him but failed to catch the license plate as I usually do. I took the best pictures of him off the video and posted it on my facebook page. It has only been on one day and I have already had over 30 shares from various people. If each person had just 50 friends that would be over 1500 people looking out to recognize the guy.
A day before this I pull into one location at 6 am and a minivan had found a electric outlet I did not know was hot who had plugged in his electric space heater. He was sleeping in his warm vehicle at my expense. The outlet is now unhooked for good.

Debra,

A few that could possibly be used ... videos of the incidents would be even more helpful but alas ... & so sorry ... I was not on top of the events quite well enough for that.

Since there are lots of SS car washes that have as part of their facility a SS laundromat like ours ... maybe it is permissible to share this one:

In our laundromat we have a community cork-tack bulletin board where people are allowed for free to post whatever as long it is not too risque or potentially criminal in some way. One day I saw all twelve of our laundry carts all bunched up directly under & along the bulletin board with a 8-/2" x 11 white paper written by a 7 or 8 year boy who wrote "PLACE ALL CARTS HERE" with a large arrow directly below the center of the board ... done with a thick tipped magic marker. Somehow someway the little mysterious little boy decided that he was the boss ... the person in charge ... when management had our backs turned & he was the one to decide what was best for the facility. Keep in mind the carts are not like grocery carts where they fold into each other so it blocked the aisle totally in a totally laughable ludicrous way!

To this day ... he was so young ... I honestly think the little boy thought he was doing the right thing.

We did have some huge show horses on a few separate occasions in our SS RV-Truck bay which was both exciting & interesting. In our SS dog wash we had some miniature horses that were scheduled for a local TV show that same day ... no no ... not incognito disguised Great Danes either... again both interesting & exciting.

Before we got the wild idea of putting in our SS dog wash ... there was a guy who would wash both his vehicle & his medium sized hunting dog during the winter time in the closed doors of one of the SS bays. Since we used & still do use the type of gun that actually has variable pressure (one of Cat or KR's specific partially dump as the gun is squeezed more or less) the dog was in no danger. The funny part was the middle aged gentleman got down on his hands & feet like a dog & made like a dog shakes when wet. Then he himself would run around our 33' x 20' bay ... he would keep repeating the 2 step ritual until he knew the dog had shook & then ran mimicking his master to get dry enough to get in his master's vehicle. Who needs a blow dry &/or towels with a technique like that!!! Keep in mind this was not a one time occurrence ... so it must have been an effective way for the master to improvise enough so his dog would become in a dry enough state. I suppose the dog might have done it on his own but the master apparently wanted to hurry the process up a bit.

Debra,

I another funny incident came into my mind. Back in 1982 ... we had just put in our first brand new surveillance camera system with four very prominently & conspicuously placed cameras. By coincidence I happened to be visiting with one of the audio visual production engineers who worked for a local TV station. He was using our facility for both washing his vehicle & his clothes. Out of nowhere this little boy in a very commanding believable way pretended like he was holding a microphone & did a very animated mock run of a full weathercast ... including a bunch of clever personality that weathercasters usually inject. He did that impromptu performance right in front of us in the cutest & most impressive way imaginable. Maybe he was practicing for a potential future weatherman career ... not sure. Keep in mind this was when surveillance cameras mounted inside &/or outside of buildings were much less common than nowadays. Maybe the little boy overheard us techie talking which may have acted as a catalyst ... not sure.

about 10 years ago I had a Chrysler Town & Country pull into one of my bays mid summer. The car prolly had not been washed in 3 years. Just completely filthy. Missing a bumper, dents all over. A woman get out, opens the rear sliding door. Out pop 4 kids. The oldest was 7ish. The youngest was around 2. All got undressed and lined up against the bay wall. The woman proceeded to spray wash all 4 kids with soap and water. She brought her own towels and dried each kid. They put on the same clothes, hopped in the car and shut the doors. She left without washing the minivan.
