I never would have thought gas prices would be this low again! Thanks to Kroger Fuel Points! 35 gallons of gas cost me $33.92!

Here in Ohio, we have a grocery chain called Kroger. When you purchase groceries you get fuel points. For every dollar you spend, you get a point....For every 100 points, you get .10 cents off every gallon on a fill-up, up to 35 gallons. In December, they also give you 4x fuel points on gift cards...So this time I had a total of 1000 points which gave me $1.00 off per gallon, the max you can redeem at one time. I took all the gas cans I had to get the max, 35 gallons....Our Local UDF (United Dairy Farmers) has a similar incentive, but not nearly as good as Kroger.

Even without using the fuel points, I would have never thought we'd see gas below $2.00 ever again. I believe the Gov't has something up their sleeve! They just haven't announced it yet?!?!!?

Gas prices always go down before an election, but I agree, I never thought we'd see gas under $2/gallon again. I think it was '96 it was last that low.

At The grocery store Giant Eagle in central Ohio they do the same. Gift cards and prescriptions give you bonus fuel perks. I get free fuel (up to 30 gal.) a half a dozen times or so a year. What doesn't fit in the tank, I bring 5 gal cans and top up for lawn and garden equipment.

here in Michigan, (At Kroger) you can buy gift cards for just about any big box store or chain restaurant and get fuel points.

Today gas was $ 1.89 per gallon

Paid $0.89 with points

I think it's the simple market working. A LOT of countries needed oil at $90/barrel to keep things humming. With all the recent development in fracking, we, the US of A, are now the world's largest producers and exporters (I think). This made sense with the frackers when oil was way up there. The Saudis want to be running the show again, so they let the price drop to force the frackers to stop producing. When our production slows the price will go back up. And gee, ain't it funny. Most everyone is going nuts over the low prices, just like it was when Bush was president. The Saudis, BTW, were the people who funded that stupid movie showing the evils of fracking. The one where flames shot out of peoples water pipes. I know people with college degrees who believed that movie.

Oklahoma is having a lot of earthquakes possibly due to fracking.
But I think there are a lot of worldwide political fighting, you can hurt you enemy by making them broke also!

Yes I agree with mac, the fracking debate is political - don't think the earthquakes are caused by fracking. OPEC is not lowering production as they normally would when the price is low in an effort to make fracking economically unfeasible. When the price gets low enough that drillers here cannot afford to produce then they will stop, production will decrease and the price will rise and OPEC will be happy as well as the extreme greenies. Of course this is all just my opinion.

I find it ironic that the Democrats said a few years ago that "drill baby drill" would not lower gas prices. Now Obama wants to claim credit for lower gas prices when he has been more of an obstacle than anything else. He and his fellow Democrats have done everything they can to stop drilling to the point that drilling on federal land is down 6%. Fortunately drilling on private land is up 61% and the price of a barrel of oil is down to $45. I an beginning to think that the term Democratic economist is an oxymoron.

Most are just above $2 now, where a month ago you couldn't find it under $2.50. This might be a good time to pre-purchase a few thousand gallons if anyone is still doing that.
