I want to push revenues higher at my 3-bay SS, but I've tapped all the easy sources such as price increases, vac upgrades, and vending. I'm now considering an effort to sell in-bay advertising to local merchants.

With thousands of vehicle visits per year, I figure that this might be sellable exposure. My first target would be the Subway sandwich shop across the street, as it's a natural for me to "push" business to him via signage or other promotions. I have highway exposure plus lots of visitors whereas his business is largely hidden. I'm considering asking for a monthly fee for advertising exposure, or, alternately, setting up a cross-promotion where I push business to him, and he pushes business back to me.

Do you have any experience with selling advertising in your SS bays or on your SS property, and if so, what was the result?

Thanks ............

make sure and check with your zoning board first. last year i had planned to sell ads on my fence; until i found out that it was against a town by-law. in my town, ads in the bays would be permitted.

I like the idea. I was in a restaurant mens room relieving myself while staring at a carwash ad on the wall. Try it and let us know how it does.

Maybe suggest to the advertiser that they use a unique offer on the bay signage so you'll both know how effective the ads are.

I sold advertising to a dentless repair company for 12 yrs.
I got $100.00 per location per month for 2 locations.
When they sold out the new owner didn't want to continue.
The only problem that I saw was that many customers thought the dentless company owned my washes.
