I recently did a CPI Talos retrofit on my Hamilton ER60 changer. Has been working flawlessly. Today I found that someone had put a Kleenex tissue in the bill slot to let me know something was wrong. The validator had a normal flashing light indicating nothing was wrong. The Hamilton controller was up and running with no error codes. I put a dollar bill in and the Talos accepted it but the coin hopper didn't dispense the coins. I cycled the power switch and pushed the reset button on the controller. The relay in the white Etowah box clicked when I did this. Went out and ran 5 bills through it and it's working perfect again.
What happened? Stuck hopper? No error codes on the validator or the controller.

The problem is the Talos validator has to be programmed to whatever your host is, most of the time they are taken out of the box and installed. I'll bet the validator is programmed as "Always enabled" If it's programmed "Always enabled" and the host should go down the validator will continued to accept bills. Or you could have a bad Talos validator or the relay box is bad. I'm not a big an of the Talos validators yet, to many problems with them.

Thanks Randy, I was hoping you would see this. I have blank coupons from one that I put in an American changer.
I can re-program it. The one I got from Etowah for the Hamilton machine was pre-programmed by them.
Can you tell me which pulse width?(gaming short-gaming long-vending short-vending long) How many pulses per dollar?( 1 or 4) and I assume you mean to set it up (harness enable)What do I need for the Hamilton machine.
What bugs me is there was no error codes on the C2000 controller.

I had a similar issue whenever the power would briefly blink out, which it was doing about once a month. I ended up putting a pure sine wave UPS on the changer.

Thanks Bud, We in fact had some bad weather yesterday that caused some blink outages in that area, now that you mentioned it. Also, I think I have a spare UPS that just needs a new battery.

I will say recently I had an MEI2600 do the same thing and it turns out I had just knocked the plug loose on the side of the validator. It was still powered up and accepting but not sending the credits to the controller.

Hey Greg, Thanks, I'm gonna check that. It should be okay because as received from Etowah, they plug the harness in and run a bead of silicone on both sides of the connector to keep it plugged in. I found it weird, but maybe they've had the same issues as you.

They started gluing the plug into the bill acceptor because they didn't originally use a pinned plug, and it would go in any direction and smoke the acceptor. They might still glue them in because they can work their way out.

Ahh, I see, says the blind man. Not weird any more. I tested it this morning and its working fine. I forgot to get a spare coupon that I have stashed at another location. Gonna make sure its set up harness enable. Also get a battery for that UPS.
Thanks Bud
