Hamilton Goldline error

I have gotten the "unexpected coin drop" twice in 2 days now. I can't see anything wrong and it will clear and work fine after acknowledging the error. Any suggestions as to what I should be looking for? It's a sunny Saturday and I expect long lines.

I’ve had this same problem with my Hamilton ACW a couple of times. It was always in the hopper. Once was a bad coin switch and the other was a bad motor. The first time I replaced the hopper with a plastic cup while I sent it in for repair. The second time I bought a replacement hopper. Now I have a spare.

Any ideas to diagnosing the problem? I don't guess the machine logs any info that might be helpful. It was out of service when dad got to the wash today. Probably cost me $100 in lost business.
 
You could empty the hopper so it will display exact change only. A hassle for the customers, but at least it should work.

You?ve got a problem with the payout switch in the Hopper. I?ve done a lot of these. It?s not too difficult to replace the switch. If it was a Hopper Coasting error it would say it on the door. Normally when you get a Hopper coasting error it?s the brake on the back of the motor that is out of adjustment or broken. I?ve got spare Hoppers if you need one.

I would agree that it is a motor coasting ,on the hopper, you need to service it soon.

Mabe i missed something ,but if you are talking about a changer it will go to out of service, but if you are talking about the goldline auto cashier, should it not go to exact change only ,instead of shutting down?
 
I don't know, you would think exact change instead of shutting down. They guy just came by. It happened about 3 this morning. He put in a 10, it gave him change but no wash then shut down. There has been a line in front of it all day so I have not been able to get into it. Guess I'll be here late tonight. Who needs a life anyway!
 
A quick, temporary fix would be to swap the leads on the payout switch. If you do, remember that there are two switches sandwiched together, and you must switch the pairs of wires together and plug them back in on the same positions they were before. Your hopper counter won't work right, but the hopper itself should. While you're in there, check under the switch for dirt buildup.
 
Maybe I will understand more what you are talking about once I get a chance to get into it. I have never had to look at the hopper before. I need to get a spare I guess.
 
I cleaned that switch where the quarters drop into the slot last night as Randy suggested . There was a little stuff around it. So far so good, but we haven't done a lot of business since then. The wind is blowing about 30 mph today. More undisputed proof of global climate change.
BTW I really like the little spell check thing. I think it makes me look a little less like a moron.
