Help ID this softener timer (fleck 3220?)

That is your meter: Fleck Meter Assembly, Brass. A cable connects this meter to the softener valve. The inner part of the cable spins as the wheel in the meter spins. The meter can go bad and the cable can go bad as well. This is part of what Fleck calls their mechanical/electrical valve. Technology from the dark ages.

Replacement brass cap is about $250. As I recall, you found the mechanical cable was the root cause.

That’s right, the bound cable is most certainly what cause these stripped gears.

Buckeye, do you sell this item?

Those gears fail every couple of years, mainly due to the chlorine in the water degrading the plastic. They make a plastic version of that brass piece that is a lot cheaper and the gears are the same either way. BTW, that unit is not a meter immediate system if it's only one tank. If it's 1" in/out that would be a Fleck 2750 control valve and it is a meter delated regen system. The default regen time is 2am but that is based on the clock setting being accurate. Also, I would highly recommend AGAINST putting carbon filter BEFORE the softener, especially if you want to soften the whole wash (which you should). Get you some quality branded 10% cross-linked resin and put the carbon filter AFTER the softener and just on the RO feed.
