I don't have any problems with Honey bees this year This year I've got a big problem with aggressive Yellow Jackets, I've never seen them this bad before.

We have them really bad too and also don't remember having that many in previous years. It's really surprising I have not been stung yet.

Have you tried hanging wasp traps? When we go camping, we pick up a few from Lowe's or Walmart and they keep the wasps away from our food. Highly recommended! (y)

I have not but in the past I have made some from pop bottles. Strangely yesterday the yellow jackets flying in and around the dumpster were really down. There were maybe four or five compared to guessing thirty or more on previous days.

I'm glad we're heading into cooler weather when the honey bees will be less active. I was at the car wash most of yesterday, emptying trash cans, washing them & spraying with lemon bleach. This young gal was getting upset with the bees, screaming and running around. She ran over to me, asked me "to turn them off!!" Yeah, right... :sneaky: I told her they're wild creatures and they can't be "turned off". 🤨🤪🐝 I pointed to my sign and said the problem is customers throwing away sugary drinks this time of year. For liability purposes, I reminded her I'm doing my best to discourage them! The bees are drawn to fruity, sweet scents and she was probably wearing hairspray and/or perfume.

Instant fix..... get rid of the trash cans. FACT: A large percentage of the trash that gets put in the cans comes from people that never spent a quarter at your business. FACT: Another percentage of people think that if they wash their car at your place every now and then, that gives them the right to come in and fill your trash cans any time they want without spending a quarter. They pull in, empty all the trash out of their car and drive away. FACT: The more trash cans you put out, the more trash you get.

This has been discussed a few times here. Some have had success with it. I can't stand seeing someone come in and fill two cans with their months of garbage just to spend $1 to vacuum (or sometimes nothing). I'm not brave enough to try. I'm certain my customers will just throw it on the ground.

What about the other 97% of people that want to throw away some trash in their way to vacuum? I like the idea of just raising prices to compensate. It is socialism. Everybody pays for a small percentage that use the service.

Every car wash has different demographics, so your facts don't apply to everyone. Our car wash is very busy and we're on-site for a few hours every day. We have confronted folks who bring in their household trash. It would be a major inconvenience to our regular customers if we got rid of all our trash cans. I agree with your last fact, so a few years ago we eliminated 1 trash can and reduced their size from 40 gallons, down to 32. Now they're lighter, smaller & easier for me to empty! (y) :D

We get honey bees at certain locations during hot seasons.
a lot of people are afraid of them but are very ingressive to humans even if you were to pick up the trash. They may intimidate you with the inquisitive flying around you but all they really want is the sweet stuff. The magic is getting some type of trap for “bees” and instead of just the liquid they recommend, try adding monster energy drink to the mixture. they love it. Keep a couple traps hanging around (specifically close as possible without being ugly to the customer) and you’ll see a decline in numbers. If it is yellow jackets it’s more serious because they are little rascals. But they still love monster energy drink ;)
