Hydrominder Tank Level Sensor

Hello, I was cleaning the foam brush hydro minder tank this morning, and noticed the upper part of the level sensor in the bottom of the tank is removed so put it back on. so when the upper parts goes up (as the level of chemical in the tank goes up) I hear a click. The level sensor is connected to some wire from the back up of the tank which I cant quite follow. What does this level sensor do? Thanks

Here is an example of the level sensor which I have:

It's probably there to disable the pump from running if the tank is empty. The click is most likely a relay opening and closing.

Oh I see so the pump doesn't choke if there is not enough material in the tank... I was thinking the other way around.. I though this sensor is to make sure the tank doesn't over flow (which is really the hydro minder's job which is a mechanical mechanism and has no electrical parts...)

Running a coleman super saver 5 bay system and those sensors do exactly what MEP explained.....if the tank is empty they will shut off the pump. Tested it out one day by emptying the tank.
