Was thinking about trying out some icoin acceptors. Read somewhere else on the forum that they had issues with the acceptor losing its programming. Is this still an issue? Any experience/opinions regarding this acceptor?

I would recommend the Microcoin QL. I only have a little direct experience with them, but it's been very good. The people I know who have them like them, and it's available in electronic drop-shelf vendors so you would be able to have the same acceptor in everything.

I second the QL. obtained some in some used meter boxes I intalled in the last wash we fixed up. I did have some jamming on one, turned out the plastic "exit guide" in the frame at the bottom was cracked and apparently created a rough edge that could catch a quarter. what I liked is the unit shut down and returned coins automatically after it jammed. I have had to remove several dollars worth of coins from jammed slugbusters. Also I have been surprised to find 'gold dollar coins" and when I ran it through, got 4 beeps so it knows what it is getting. was easy to program to take our tokens. My plan will be to buy these when I need more...

I see Dultmeier stocks three of the distinct Magikist Icoin-Secure Coin acceptors. I have a never used one ... for standby testing ... short drop ... I bought from this forum's "Soapy" if I remember right. It looks like they updated the acceptors in 2018??? based on the Magikist-Winnipeg website.
They look a bit on the pricey side .... which may explain why more forum operators are not using them or even tried them??? Microcoin QL's ability to use at least 6 distinct coins seems of value ... in case there needs to be a transition of the metal content of a specific coin by the Mint.
As far as having only one brand of coin mech for everything ... that could carry some risk if that brand would start having lesser quality. Most brands are interchangeable (without modification)

I have used Secure Coin acceptors in my bays for years and sent a batch in for service last year. When I sent them in I found out from Magikist they were offering a new upgraded design which allow the acceptor to be easily opened in the case of coin jams. The biggest surprise for me is they gave me a trade in allowance to upgrade to their new acceptors. If my memory serves me correct the trade in amount was $70 against the $200 selling price, so I exchanged all of them. I installed their new acceptors a little over a year ago and they have operated flawlessly. The only issue that my customers encountered was the coins had to dropped slowly since some customers would push the coins into the slot and would reject. I was told by Magikist their reader would not detect if the coins were pushed into the slot. I posted this as a note on the bay boxes and the problem was eliminated

In 2003 we had just opened a new wash with Slugbuster II 2-coin acceptors in bays and vacs, and when I tried to replace the token with a dollar coin I discovered that they would only take the dollar coin for 4 pulses if I off the quarter adjustment all the way to reject, otherwise the timer would get one pulse. When I called Parker, the only help I got was "You'll have to upgrade to Slugbuster III's. I don't know why every other brand can tell the difference between a quarter and a dollar coin but theirs can't. Also, kudos to Magikist.
I've also had that problem with Slugbuster II 1-coin acceptors. It's because the sensor coil is in the chute. I don't know why people think they have to throw the coins in as hard as they can.

I use magikist icoins in a few bays / vacs. They have been super reliable and never get jammed but like Bob Koo mentioned, when the customer rockets the quarter into the machine it will reject it. I haven't posted signs but I've had to tell a number of customers to gently drop them in.

I ordered a couple to try out but they look completely different than what is shown on KR's website. The ones I received have a red plastic body and the control door doesn't appear to swing open to easily clear jams. The picture on KR's website a stainless steel body/frame. Did I get the wrong one or an older model?

That is the newer design & ones I like best. The prior design has to be adjusted in the frame for coins to flow correctly. That issue has been eliminated with the red body model.
