In one helluva jam. Need help & advice

I have a site with a tds of 220 and the membranes last about 6 months and another site with a tds of 100 which lasts about 12 months. The flow rate is a bit slow which is why you need good storage. The membranes also last longer if the feed goes through a softener. I tend to change the membranes when I get a tds of 50.

Mep, My system has a back-flush. It runs about 3 minutes every day and uses the booster pump when its running....As stated above, my TDS hasn't changed since the install 5 years ago. I don't quit understand your comment about it not being effective?

It's a flush, not a backflush. GinSan systems use the RO product to flush the membrane after each run. I don't believe they're effective because I've serviced hundreds of systems and there doesn't seem to be any effect on the life of the membrane with the flush.

I Haven't used the inline tds meter you showed just hand helds which work well. As for the R.O unit. It certainly is not as good as a $5000 system but will definitely get you going when funds are tight!.
With regards to the Irish connection. I think there are more Irish in New York and Boston alone than Ireland itself! Lead mile failte

Sounds like you got the system fixed.. Amazing how techs can't fix simple things...

This likely will happen again, its a sign of water quality issue at the site... Since you want to save money, if you have more time you can easily clean the membranes yourself next time. I have revived many a severely clogged membrane to run for years longer. Especially if the clogging is iron or calcium.

You can get all the chemicals you need at the store to clean them, if you got a spare flowjet or something, and a few hours, your in business. Dow has a sheet on cleaning procedures.

Or... It's a hot water problem melting the membranes.. Max safe temp on most membranes is 120°

Flush or backflush what ever you want to call it MEPI. All my RO systems do it. I checked one system I put in 2003 last week and it is putting out 007 TDS and I have not changed the membrane in 12 years. I have 2 others running on the original membrane that still put out below 10 tds that are over 18 years old and never had a membrane replaced.

+1 Soapy.....I had to check mine tonight...Yea. The little Red button that Illuminates when its on says "Flush" not back-flush....Works for me too!
