Is it too early to think about Las Vegas?

I just jumped in Travelocity to check pricing on hotels and airfare for the Carwash Show in April. Looks like I can get there and back with room at either the Statosphere, Flamingo, or Harrah's for less than $800.
I know that a bunch of guys usually stay at Harrah's but I was thinking about trying a new place. The Statosphere isn't as close to the monorail as I would like but I don't mind a short walk.
I'm more concerned about finding good food that is available early in the morning as I am usually still on east coast time.

Frankly, the Strat is so far away you might as well stay in Phoenix. It's not a short walk to anywhere. If you want any kind of monorail access your choices would be Harrah's, Linq, Flamingo, Bally's, Paris, Planet Hollywood, and MGM Grand. Aside from those, SLS (fka, Sahara) also has access and might be something different to try.

I have a credit with Southwest that expires next week. We're heading out there Sunday.

I am also driving down on SUnday. I guess between Pat and myself we will be able to verify that Vegas is still there. I personally like the Peppermill for breakfast. If you want a short walk to the convention the old Hilton next to the convention center is a choice but probably a bit more money.

I stayed across from the convention center in the Courtyard Marriott and just Uber'd it everywhere in the evening. I enjoyed walking to and from the center and then taking the Uber to go out at night. Worked well and I'll do it again this year.

I think I'm to cool to stay anywhere but on the strip. I gotta be where the action is. Since I was stag this last trip, I stayed at Harrah's instead of our usual Treasure Island when my wife is with me. When I got back home I realized that the only time I was out on the strip was the very first night, when Greg Pack and I walked next door to Walgreen's and picked up 2 6-packs of bottled water and some Cheez-its. Yeah, I'm one party animal...

I don’t think it’s too early to be thinking about the ICA convention. I’ve got my airfare booked and my room booked on the Ruby Princess the week of the ICA convention.

Pete, After going to conventions for 30 years the “flash in the pan” is pretty much gone in going to conventions. I will miss seeing my car wash friends at the Forum dinner.

Well, I guess it's a good thing I'm going, so everyone will have a reason to go to the forum dinner ;) My two big reasons for going are that we love Las Vegas and I really like seeing my CW buddies. Now that being said, I didn't like seeing them enough to go to the Chicago show. You gotta draw the line somewhere :D

I just booked my flight and hotel. I'm sure a lot of you were hanging in limbo, wanting to make sure I was going to be there before you made your plans. See you in a couple of months.

I just ran down to check and Vegas is still there. Saturday I was on Lake Mead swimming, temps. were a little cool at 78 but that beats the teens I found when I got home.

There are some good lectures, but unless you're looking for new equipment the main show is kind of a waste of time. The Vegas show doesn't compare, it would take a couple days to see everything.

Can they ever get the show out of Vegas? Who wants to go to the same place every year? I am so tired of Vegas I don't care if I ever see it again. I refuse to go back until it is moved somewhere else. I did go to Nashville.

I occasionally hear this, but if you look at attendance numbers, Vegas is by far the biggest draw for any city where the convention has been held. West coast participation in the shows in Nashville and Chicago is weak, and you see similar regional participation trends depending on where the convention is held - except Vegas, where the draw is strongest.

I don't understand why you would feel that way. If you're going to the convention, what difference does it make what is nearby. Last year I went stag. I hung out at the convention most of each day. The first night I had a steak with Soapy, the second night I had dinner with Greg Pack, Randy and wife, the next night was the forum dinner, and the next day a couple hours at the convention, then flew home. The only difference the location made was more dining choices.

I did go to the Nashville convention as well. Things were much less convenient there.

I usually go to the show for one day and maybe a just a short bit on the second day. The rest of the time I use it as a tax write off mini vacation. Who wants to vacation at the same spot every year? I think I have seen everything within 150 miles of vegas. To make things worse I just purchased self storage units and discover their trade show is in vegas.

I can see why attendance was down at Chicago.

Ok, who's going to be there? I land at 4:30 on the 25th. I'll be stag and looking for someone to grab a steak with. I'm staying at Treasure Island, where are others staying?

FWIW Sparkey, someone that I believe is "In the know" said that next year it will be back in Nashville, and the next in San Antonio.
