Is there a trick to getting wall mount booms to return to the wall?

My foam brush and triple foam double boom has trouble returning to the wall. I keep seeing customers wrap the high pressure hose around the triple foam hose because it didn't return properly. Then they put the hp gun in the holder and leave a nice jungle looking cluster across the bay. What can I do to help this?

Make sure the bottom pivot of the boom is farther out from the wall than the top pivot.

The mount should look something like this:

This will make the boom swing to the right. If the holes are the same top and bottom, you'll need to shim.

My first guess would be that you've got the mounts upside-down.

My hoses run through my double wall mount boom. Can someone post pics or tell me how you put your hoses through the ceiling. My hoses are what are keeping my booms from returning properly.

This is how I mounted mine. I used PVC mounted to a piece of plywood to run the hoses through. Then cut an additional piece of half inch hose about 8-10" long and used it as a sleeve or protector on the hose to keep from cutting the hose on the sharp edges of the boom mount.

I had to put a loop of 1/2" hose coming down from the ceiling so the boom would swing free.

You don't need any kind of swivel on the hose to the boom or above the ceiling. The hose shouldn't be moving there.

No Swivels. Just 2 pvc couplers and a short piece of pipe sandwiched to the plywood. The poly braid hose then goes from the ceiling over to the trough in the attic. I have that hose insulated over to the trough. The Previous Owner had cut a big loop in the ceiling for the hoses. Birds and criters would get up in the attic. Drove me nuts...Thats why I have plywood there. The PVC helps protect the polybraid when it pivots back and forth. Been like that for 3 years now. No problems.

I don't think the problem is with the hoses. It appears that the top of the boom mount is farther away from the wall than the bottom. The booms are going to want to swing away from the wall. If you flip the bracket over and drill two holes in the way I outlined above, it will swing toward the wall on its own.

I think the holes are the same distance from the back of the bracket for both top and bottom. I will measure when I go back up there today. I believe my ceilings are around 9'.

When the boom it stuck out.... is the lp hose between the boom and the wall? Or outside of the boom like the picture?

It looks like the boom and the hose are conflicting? I think the boom needs to be lowered. But if you add more lp hose slack the hose might not allow the hose to go on the wrong side of the boom? (Between the wall and boom.)

It should help. There needs to be something to help the boom return completely to the wall. Tilting the bottom out will make the boom try to lean toward the wall, but it will also increase how far the end of the boom swings. You might have to lower the whole bracket.

How are the brush and foam gun mounted on the wall? Are customers leaving them crossed too? This is how I set them up:

The foam gun holder is at the same end of the bay as the meter. Sometimes one boom gets pulled across the other, but they still don't interfere with the high-pressure boom at all. If the FB boom is in front of the foam gun boom, as soon as someone pulls the foam gun hose the brush boom swings back into place.

Mine are mounted kind of like yours are in the picture. What happends is say the foam brush doesn't return all the way to the wall maybe stays out from the wall 2'. Then the customer steps through the LP hose with the HP gun starting the tangle. They then hang the HP gun back up leaving the boom pulled out further in the bay. So if I can get them to return all the way to the wall everytime this should take care of my problem. I will try and shim the bottom of the bracket and see if that helps. On my end bays I have the bracket welded to a stainless steel square tubing. I will have to move the bottom of the tubing in some on those.

Look at the pictures above - it should be pretty clear how it works. It's very basic, no bearings.

MEP001 - My boom works with 2 bearings, a 2'' shaft going thru, and internally there is a 1/4 SS pipe. It looks like the bearings are not exactly aligned, looks slightly angled like the picture above. Can I email you MEP001? I would like to send you pics. I'm sure you have not seen my boom style.
